What astonishes me is that in real life some people think I'm kind of a jerk, and some women have still been attracted to me, despite them knowing I'm misogynistic. I've slut shamed women (sometimes obvious, most of the time in subtle ways), called them ugly, unattractive, and so on.

Maybe its the infamy that draws people in. Just as long as you're not perceived as weak, you can be an asshole, but you cant be weak. I think as long as you can persuade some people within your social network that you're not really a bad guy people will continue to like you.

When guys complain about assholes, are they really assholes, or just really assertive? Their girlfriends dont think they're assholes, so who is right? Those guys could just be too soft.

Believe it or not, those guys are not assholes. Are they unneccessarily rude to people in public? Because that's socially unacceptable behavior in many public settings, and many women wont tolerate that. A lot of guys have some weird idea of what they have labeled "assholes", maybe because they watch too many tv shows or cartoons, so they think evil men are taking their women when its really not like that at all. Just dont neither be too soft or too much of a jerk. Being nice and assertive isnt mutually exclusive, you can be an assertive nice guy.

Sometimes that means certain women would prefer a jerk over an unconfident "nice guy", but a confident and nice guy is probably most attractive. Though everyone knows that the typical incel "nice guys" actually have a lot of creepy latent tendencies that are sexist in a different way than the loud chauvinist type.

I remember an episode of the Romeo Show on Nickelodeon on this subject. Women have it ingrained in them to nurture and the appeal of the bad boy is to help change them and make them a better person that has their shit together. Unfortunately, that fantasy is a lot more difficult for the ladies to achieve when the dude is a grown legal adult continually being a dumbass vs. a naive little kid with troubles in middle school.

This is incorrect. Girls are attracted to power. A bad boy in the eyes of younger girls have control over their lives and have the power to do what they want. A girl being able to land a guy and get him to commit to her will see herself as higher value in relation to her peers for accomplishing this.

The maternal instinct and nurturing nature kicks in when they see a kid or man in tears or emotionally vulnerable. That's when they come in to console them. Unfortunately for men, this comes at a price as then girls will see those guys as less attractive. This is where the old adages of "never show your emotions around girls" and "Real men don't cry" come from. It's not out of toxic masculinity but cultural rules to protect your relationship.
