Have "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" out, inspiration for Blade Runner. Ordered "Tuf Voyaging" by George RR Martin and "Contact" by Carl Sagan... whenever I'm done

For non-fiction, reading "Palestine Speaks: Narratives of Life Under Occupation" by the Voice of Witness series. Their books are always good accounts of social/cultural issues and it seemed like a good time for that

I also read a lot of art history books because it's an interest of mine... want to frequent museums more often

Ubik, Heart of Darkness, Slan, and Epic of Darkness. Have been on my reading list for years. also, apparently, theres a prequel to The Scarlet Gospels I never got around to. Beyond that, not a lot. Maybe Ill take a friends advice & give the Bible another go around. My reading is often extremely heavy-handed in nature. Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The Metamorphosis. The Prince. Origin of Species. These are the things Xeth likes.

Apparently a bookshelf with them in plain view induces reading.

Im currently reading Debt: A 5,000 Year History by David Graeber, which is, essentially, a comparative anthropological study of human economic development. Its really thorough, well-written, and engaging work.
And funny, when he quotes this medieval Turkish satirist named Nasruddin.

I finished God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Vonnegut a bit ago. I found it rather tedious, like Breakfast of Champions. I enjoyed Slaughterhouse 5 when I was younger but I don't think I'm a Vonnegut fan.

I'm a few pages into Hard Times by Dickens. Opening scene in the school was very funny.

Next I'm planning on reading The Brothers Karamazov and some Kafka short stories. Oh and I also want to read The Assassination of Fred Hampton and watch the new movie about him.

Currently reading Point of Contact by Mike Maden.

Been reading through the Jack Ryan series as like my main focus

Other series I've been reading on the side are

Mitch Rapp - Spy and thriller novels pretty much the same as the Jack Ryan books but its less realistic and more just straight up action orientated

Star Wars Rouge Squadron - Legends series that takes place after episode VI follows Rouge Squadron who are the best pilots in the New Republic as they fight against the Imperial Remnant.

Star Wars Coruscant Nights - Legends series that follows a young jedi trying to survive on Coruscant days after order 66

Star Wars Han Solo Trilogy - Legends series thats about Han Solo's adventures before episode IV

Star Wars The New Jedi Order - Legends series that covers the Yuuzhan Vong War which takes place years after episode VI. A race of aliens from outside the galaxy invade and the New Republic and Imperial Remnant pretty much have to team up to fight off the threat

Star Wars Thrawn Ascendency - New canon books thats about Thrawn before he joined the Empire. Its still ongoing I just finished book 2 yesterday.

Sounthern Victory/Timeline 191 - Alternate history series by Harry Turtledove where the South wins the American Civil war. It carries on through what WW1 and WW2 could've been like if the CSA had been a part of it.

World War - Another alternate history series by Harry Turtledove where a race of aliens invade during WW2. The war is put on pause as the allies and axis powers have to team up to fight off the new threat

Janie Johnson - Mystery/thriller series about a girl who finds out her parents aren't her biological ones and that she was abducted as a little kid

Alex Cross - Good cop series if you're into crime

Other then that I have a bunch of miscellaneous books I've collected over the years...you get a lot of free shit while in the Army lol. I got a pretty big backlog

Im not much of a bookworm, but Ive recently read through The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and The Last Woman in His Life. Both mystery novels, a genre I never really read much. Ill admit Im not sure how Im supposed to enjoy them, reading too carefully and writing down clues and stuff just feels like a pain. But at the same time, I might not be getting the most out of them if I simply read until I get the answer.

Either way, Im probably gonna start reading book 2 of the Stormlight Archive soon. I finished book 1 a while ago after seeing topics on CE, it was pretty good. Ive just been working on other stuff and demotivated about reading.

The Cask of Amontillado
The story's narrator, Montresor, tells an unspecified person, who knows him very well, of the day he took his revenge on Fortunato (Italian for "the fortunate one"), a fellow nobleman. Angry over numerous injuries and some unspecified insult, Montresor plots to murder his "friend" during Carnival, while the man is drunk, dizzy, and wearing a jester's motley.

Montresor lures Fortunato into a private wine-tasting excursion by telling him he has obtained a pipe(about 130 gallons,[1] 492 litres) of what he believes to be a rare vintage of Amontillado. He proposes obtaining confirmation of the pipe's contents by inviting a fellow wine aficionado, Luchesi, for a private tasting. Montresor knows Fortunato will not be able to resist demonstrating his discerning palate for wine and will insist that he taste the amontillado rather than Luchesi who, as he claims, "cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry". Fortunato goes with Montresor to the wine cellars of the latter's palazzo, where they wander in the catacombs. Montresor offers wine (first Mdoc, then De Grave) to Fortunato in order to keep him inebriated. Montresor warns Fortunato, who has a bad cough, of the dampness, and suggests they go back, but Fortunato insists on continuing, claiming that he "shall not die of a cough". During their walk, Montresor mentions his family coat of arms: a golden foot in a blue background crushing a snake whose fangs are embedded in the foot's heel, with the motto Nemo me impune lacessit ("No one provokes me with impunity").

At one point, Fortunato makes an elaborate, grotesque gesture with an upraised wine bottle. When Montresor appears not to recognize the gesture, Fortunato asks, "You are not of the masons?" Montresor says he is, and when Fortunato, disbelieving, requests a sign, Montresor displays a trowel he had been hiding. When they come to a niche, Montresor tells his victim that the Amontillado is within. Fortunato enters drunk and unsuspecting and therefore, does not resist as Montresor quickly chains him to the wall. Montresor then declares that, since Fortunato won't go back, Montresor must "positively leave" him there.

Montresor reveals brick and mortar, previously hidden among the bones nearby, and proceeds to wall up the niche using his trowel, entombing his friend alive. At first, Fortunato, who sobers up faster than Montresor anticipated, shakes the chains, trying to escape. Fortunato then screams for help, but Montresor mocks his cries, knowing nobody can hear them. Fortunato laughs weakly and tries to pretend that he is the subject of a joke and that people will be waiting for him (including the Lady Fortunato). As Montresor finishes the topmost row of stones, Fortunato wails, "For the love of God, Montresor!" to which Montresor replies, "Yes, for the love of God!" He listens for a reply but hears only the jester's bells ringing. Before placing the last stone, he drops a burning torch through the gap. He claims that he feels sick at heart, but dismisses this reaction as an effect of the dampness of the catacombs.

In the last few sentences, Montresor reveals that 50 years later, Fortunato's body still hangs from its chains in the niche where he left it. The murderer concludes: In pace requiescat! ("May he rest in peace!").

The Tell-Tale Heart
"The Tell-Tale Heart" is a first-person narrative told by an unnamed narrator. Despite insisting that they are sane, the narrator suffers from a disease (nervousness) which causes "over-acuteness of the senses".

The old man, with whom the narrator lives, has a clouded, pale, blue "vulture-like" eye, which distresses and manipulates the narrator so much that the narrator plots to murder the old man, despite also insisting that the narrator loves the old man. The narrator is insistent that this careful precision in committing the murder proves that they cannot possibly be insane. For seven nights, the narrator opens the door of the old man's room to shine a sliver of light onto the "evil eye." However, the old man's vulture-eye is always closed, making it impossible to "do the work," thus making the narrator go further into distress.

On the eighth night, the old man awakens after the narrator's hand slips and makes a noise, interrupting the narrator's nightly ritual. The narrator does not draw back and after some time, decides to open the lantern. A single thin ray of light shines out and lands precisely on the "evil eye," revealing that it is wide open. The narrator hears the old man's heart beating, which only gets louder and louder. This increases the narrator's anxiety to the point where the narrator decides to strike. He jumps into the room and the old man shrieks once before he is killed. The narrator then dismembers the body and conceals the pieces under the floorboards, ensuring the concealment of all signs of the crime. Even so, the old man's scream during the night causes a neighbor to report to the police, who the narrator invites in to look around. The narrator claims that the scream heard was the narrator's own in a nightmare and that the old man is absent in the country. Confident that they will not find any evidence of the murder, the narrator brings chairs for them and they sit in the old man's room. The chairs are placed on the very spot where the body is concealed; the police suspect nothing, and the narrator has a pleasant and easy manner.

The narrator begins to feel uncomfortable and notices a ringing in the narrator's ears. As the ringing grows louder, the narrator concludes that it is the heartbeat of the old man coming from under the floorboards. The sound increases steadily to the narrator, though the officers do not seem to hear it. Terrified by the violent beating of the heart and convinced that the officers are aware of not only the heartbeat but also the narrator's guilt, the narrator breaks down and confesses. The narrator tells them to tear up the floorboards to reveal the remains of the old man's body.
