He has a different version of it created by Zola and injected into Bucky when he was Zola's captive at the Hydra base. Here is the scene where Captain America rescues him from said base in the first movie:

He was just a kid who would fight along with Cap, then he got left behind and evil scientists did experiments on him.

Been skimming Winter Soldier to see if they show anything but they already seem to retcon how he's controlled in the next movie, either by electrocution/brain zapping or a series of code words that activate his winter soldierness

I didnt realize they injected it that early

So was it just a super delayed response? Cause he doesnt do anything really superhuman the rest of the movie other than survive the fall

Ohhh forgot about the first one. I forgot Bucky was already captured by Hydra once before. So that means that they acquired him again after he fell damn.

The zapping deletes his memories on top of that

It's a redundancy kinda thing

He wasn't controlled by the electricity. That was just how they mind wipe him. They still use code words in Winter Soldier.

That's what I thought, I was trying to find when in the movies they showed him having super soldier serum in him but I couldn't find it explicitly shown, it seems to be all implicit

Oh that explains it. Zapping seems to be equivalent to a lobotomy to forget memories, but they're slowly coming back in later movies. He even point blank said he remembers all of them.

Yep. He likely was given additional augmentations (besides the arm obviously) as they continued to experiment on him after he survived the train fall.

That is, Bucky was experimented on to the point where he survives a train fall...only for said survival to lead to decades of being experimented on. Sucks.

Something I've been thinking about... did they cut off the arm just to give him a cybernetic arm, or did he already lose his arm in "the fall" and they gave him that to compensate and as an experiment, kill 2 birds with 1 stone kinda deal?

I'm pretty sure he just lost the arm in the fall. If they were going to bother cutting one off, I don't see why they'd only do one.

He lost his arm in the fall, pretty sure they show that when he's remembering the fall and subsequent events.

Zola was experimenting on him during the war before Cap rescues him, and they nab him again after the fall and did who knows what to him. He's clearly much faster and stronger than a normal human, and going by his recent show appearance he's insanely durable and heals super fast.

Wonder how you just lose an arm from a fall... maybe it was dislocated so bad it was virtually useless.

Also turns out the Wakandans apparently gave him a new Winter Soldier type arm... but weirdly it seems they didn't even equip it with any gadgets or nifty features like inspector gadget but in the smartphone era
