https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_cooker

Automatic electric rice cookers were first released in 1955 by the Japanese company Toshiba. In December 1956, the Toshiba Corporation placed the first commercially successful automated electric rice cookers on the market. Since then, millions have been sold worldwide. The rice cookers available today are not much different from the original models.

The first practical electric rice cooker was invented by Yoshitada Minami.

With all the various convenience technologies the 2010s brought us & anti-Asian hate crimes being at their highest rate in years it seems pretty on-the-nose people are just suddenly singling out an eastern invention with decades of use behind it... food for thought.

it's thinly veiled racism to conflate Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese people as a cluster, much like OP.

Especially if they're the sort of the uppity white person who's done 23andMe and will distinguish between being Welsh and being Scottish.

Apologies if I'm misunderstanding something but are you trying to claim that Wales and Scotland are more or less the same? Their mutual hatred of the English aside, they're quite different.

I don't but this is like the 3rd or 4th topic I've seen about them within that time. My college roommate had one and a lot of the time a lot of rice would stick to the side and burn a bit, but that happens with other methods of cooking rice too, and it could have been user error. I honestly don't even remember anything about settings, instructions or cook times. Aside from that it was fine and i'm glad he had it.

If one is racist enough to think of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc as "those Asian people", but also makes a clear distinction between different parts of the UK, they're a very special sort or person.

Most racism is born of ignorance though. Making sweeping generalisations is par for the course, unfortunately. Also, just because somebody is racist, doesn't mean that they're against all races and nationalities that aren't their own.

My only anecdote is my friend/roomie and his bitch of a GF came home from vacation one time and complained we didnt wash it. They were the last to use it and I had noticed it was sitting out but didnt know it was dirty. So basically Why didnt you wash our dirty dishes?!

Hmm. Never heard of this. I've been hesitant to get stuff like that but my apartment is being renovated soon so maybe if I have actual counter space, I'll give those sorts of things a try. That's the main reason I haven't so far.

I do like the consistency of a rice cooker, I follow the lines inside the pot and its very consistent, I dont do the finger trick like my chinese family, its too inconsistent

It was more that some (small amounts) dried out and caked to the bottom and sides than like burnt burnt. Sometimes burnt like slightly brown on the bottom. I'm going by memory from just about 20 years ago anyway. I probably eyeballed measurements and stuff so maybe that did it.
