If it works like all the other games that have a PS5 upgrade, cant you just press the options button on the game icon in the PS5 screen, and select the version that you want to play/download?

You have to go into the submenu to go into the PS4 version first, and select "upload save data" on the main menu. Then you have to go into the PS5 version and select "download saved data". You also need both versions installed on your harddrive, which altogether is nearly 200 gb.

I did it with the kingdom hearts series after beating the first shortly after its original release and thought I'd wait for the story to conclude.

It was pretty fun playing the entirety of the series over a year in 2019.

I also don't have a PS5 and I'm waiting for a PC port

Yeah, might as well just play it now. It's still structured in a way that feels like a complete game with a more grander story to tell, kind of like how Mass Effect 1 is.

The devs did a pretty good job with Yuffie in this DLC honestly. I'm looking forward to a Hard Mode run.

it's pretty easy, you play it and go, "Man since i'm not an insuferable ass, that was a lot of fun, could have been better with a little less fluff, wish it was just the full game, but still i had a good time and enjoyed delving further into midgar"

The saves tranfer is dumb, you need both versions installed

go on PS4, upload ONE SAVE at a time, go to PS5 Version and download

I've upgraded quite a few ps4 games to the PS5 versions and only had to download and install the PS5 version. The console will automatically begin to install the PS4 version but you can stop it, delete it and select to just install the PS5 version.
You never need to have the actual PS4 version download to play the PS5 version.

You never need to have the actual PS4 version download to play the PS5 version.

The problem is the save data. PS4 saves aren't compatible with PS5 games. So games have needed to patch themselves with an upload tool to carry progress over which requires downloading both versions.

It is true, I had to do it this morning. Fortunately, you can just delete the PS4 version afterwards, but you still need to have that significant amount of space just for the save transfer alone.

Physically, the game is 30 bucks isn't it or at the least it recently was. So buying it physically used then getting the free upgrade then paying the 20 for yuffie is 20 bucks cheaper then getting the game on PS5.

given the topic is about upgrading from the ps4 version i bought new when it came out, yes that is the point to avoid buying the ps5 version.
