to reduce your water consumption, theyre gonna say shit like dont water your lawns or take shorter showers. thats bullshit. urban water consumption vs agriculture consumption in the state is 20:80.

eat less meat. like even a few days a week without it will seriously help.

Isn't basically the whole west side of the USA in a major or extreme drought?

I know CA is, heard about AZ and OR, then heard about UT today.

Eat less avocados, they flood areas to grow those things, that water could be used to raise more meat.

Meats a rather long term thing to cycle

Maybe eat more veal instead. Drink blood, or dilute it with a half glass of water

One of the things that troubles me is that farmers are always bitching about water. This isn't mom and pop farming though. The agriculture the rest of the country (and sometimes the world) enjoys comes at the expense of our own water. People are asked to cut back before agribusiness, yet agribusiness wants even more water.

https://www.netstate.com/economy/ca_economy.htm

California produces almost all of the country's almonds, apricots, dates, figs, kiwi fruit, nectarines, olives, pistachios, prunes, and walnuts. It leads in the production of avocados, grapes, lemons, melons, peaches, plums, and strawberries. Only Florida produces more oranges.

The most important vegetable crops grown in the state are lettuce and tomatoes. Again, California leads the way. Broccoli and carrots rank second followed by asparagus, cauliflower, celery, garlic, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Only Texas grows more cotton than California. Hay, rice, corn, sugar beets, and wheat are also grown in large quantities. Only Texas grows more livestock.

well i guess my point is that the drought is the farmers fault, which is why you dont have to take shorter showers (because thats not really going to do anything). and we can discourage the farmers by eating less meat, since meat costs the most water.

The drought is nature's "fault", but the public is always asked to sacrifice more than their fair share (as a percentage of the load) than agribusiness. I get it, CA makes big money on the agriculture and livestock - money other states would kill for - but the tech stuff we do makes even more.

Agribusiness has too much pull on the water issue.
