It IS okay to hit someone if you want them to stop what they're doing. Ever been bullied? Were you able to convince your bully to stop with a well thought out intellectual plea? No? Me neither. I have convinced bullies to stop by throwing reckless haymakers at their faces though.

There is a difference between self defense/protecting yourself and hitting someone just because they won't give you what you want or won't do what you want, yea?

Yes. I have never once hit either of my children. When they were toddlers tantrums in restaurants were resolved by removing them from said restaurants until they calmed down and I could explain the behavior is unacceptable. We would not go back in until then. As children now, they know what behavior is acceptable if they misbehave they know the consequences. If we were in a restaurant and they decided to misbehave we leave, we tell the waitress we need our dinner and the dinner of the child that is behaving to go, the misbehaving child gets a very basic dinner at home. Do they still misbehave sometimes? Yes their fucking kids of course they do. Do they behave better than most? Yes because in their mind they are actually going to lose out on things they want because they are just getting hit and still receiving something special.

It depends on the situation. There is no be all end all for how to deal with bad behaviors. The most important thing in dealing with children is making sure you talk to them to set boundaries, make sure they understand what you want from them and that they understand their behaviors have consequences.

This only happens to people who don't do it right.

Shit as a teen I recall Mom had been noticing i wouldnt flinch anymore as if I were un-afraid. I remember what was prob my last ass whooping. She saw i had balled up my fist and have a defiant look on my face the whole time. She was all "what, are you gonna hit me now? Try it"

I didn't of course. Love and respect mom too much. There was no more ass whoopings after that. She recognized i was too grown for it. Or maybe I just matured enough to stay out of trouble.

Like I said, proper spankings exist. It works for some people at certain times of their life.
