Why do you want prison to be abolished?

Would you be ready to have a prison reform instead?

Would you still accept making an exception for serial killers for example to be in jail?

Why do you think it's a good idea?

I have seen some people say that on social media, but they never go into details as to why they think it should be that.

Most people with that view explicitly avoid tough questions because they haven't progressed beyond the "repeat a sound bite you heard from someone you were told is a good person to listen to" phase. Once they do, they tend to move more towards the reform position (or in some cases, just away from the "anything needs to change" position altogether, but that's less common among those who once held an "abolish them" stance).

I don't think anyone - certainly not anyone of rational mind - wants prison outright abolished. However it needs to be significantly reformed in the US in particular.

Although, I HAVE heard some radicals saying to abolish the police. At that point, I guess prisons would no longer have a point unless you expect criminals to voluntarily turn themselves into the courthouse when no form of coercion exists?
