I'm gonna not sure. Like ok, I feel that every real sport should be physical such as running, jumping, throwing the ball swinging a bat. But I also acknowledge that video games take skill. So there's that.

But then where do I draw the line? Like pool? Poker? Personally I think I draw the line at bowling being the lowest amount of work to be considered a real sport.

But I'd also consider paintball a real sport but thats kinda what a Call of duty is. So I dunno. Its a tricky subject

Are they skilled? For sure. I don't have the ability to compete at that level.

Is it a sport? I dunno. I don't consider it one but I don't give people shit who do.

I assume youve never played Rocket League. It takes an insane amount of skill to play at competitive levels. Ive been playing like five years and nowhere close.

To answer though, no. ESports take a lot of skill. They arent sports though. Chess takes a ton of skill and knowledge but its a game. So are E-Sports. The label doesnt diminish the legitimacy though.

I consider League of Legends and DOTA to be at the very least.

Both are highly competitive, take extreme levels of teamwork, communication, timing, game knowledge, and skill.
That sounds like a sport to me.

This is the right answer. It doesnt take anything away from them but video games, chess, poker, and things like this are not sports.

While I personally disagree, I like this point of view.

I also think eSports is a very broad term and too many games are under this label.

imo, a sport is a competitive game that involves some level of physical activity. Videogames are not sports. Calling it esports is just a marketing thing.

That said, the fact that esports aren't sports doesn't make it inferior, just different. I'm not really interested in either one.

It's "marketing" for gamers to be branded like an athlete.

The reality is far from it.

Like "Cloud" for servers.

Not all competitive games are sports.

Baseball, tennis, golf are competitive games that require physical, athletic ability (although to varying degrees. Golf especially cuts it close). They are sports.

Games like chess and e-sports do not require athletic ability. The skill comes from your hand eye coordination or your ability to think critically.

That doesn't mean they are less worthy as hobbies or whatever. They're just not sports. They're competitive games.

That's where I draw the distinction anyway, people are free to disagree.

but you have to be dexterous to be good at games. Which in itself is a physical component, but ya I agree with you mostly.

I define Sports as requiring "Physical Skill" to perform at the highest level.

eSports is just marketing terminology for Competitive Gaming.

Nope. E-sports are 100% inferior. Weve had this discussion before where e-sports are nothing but a money making marketing scheme. In a lot of cases, teams dont even pick the most skilled players, they take who they see as the most marketable players. Thats why youll see teams recruiting from Twitch and YouTube. Competition is secondary to selling GFuel and CyberPCs.

Competitive gaming was originally community organized and found a wider audience through online streaming rather than traditional media so I always found it weird how desperate they became for mainstream approval after becoming popular without it.

All of the sudden it was "esports" and you had dudes in suits sitting behind a commentator desk like it was ESPN or something. Why is it so important to be considered a sport?
