Current Events > HBO Max has been a fucking disaster on my TCL Roku TV recently

Idk if true for all Rokus or just the TCL built-in Rokus, but for the past week or so, I've basically been only able to get into a show after 10+ tries. Anywhere from clicking the app to picking profile to picking a show to buffering the show, I'll get this "sorry but something has caused the app to close, please try again later" error.

No error code or anything either

Tried doing a power cycle of the TV, no clue what's going on.

And even when the app does work it still takes forever to load the home page, they really did not optimize this thing at all

That sucks, I haven't had issues on my Roku stick. Which I got because my Samsung tv was having issues with HBO max and another app I don't recall now

Same on PS5. The new update really fucked everything up. I've had to close out the app at least 20 times yesterday while watching shit. The actual visible changes they made are very small and pointless too.

TCL Roku always been trash. Gonna need a separate device for all the streaming services to run on. Those things run on like 1gb RAM.

HBO Max is just a terrrible app honestly. Doesn't work properly on my phone, tablet, or PS5 if I do anything else other then watch it. So if I turn the screen off to do something else or whatever and come back to it, I got to do a full reboot of the app to do anything.

I mean the TV has been flawless for me with the exception of this specific app, which it sounds like others are having problems too. I accept TCL as a bargain brand but damn $200 for a solid TV going on four years now is fine with me.

I haven't tried it on anything but the TV and yeah you can definitely tell it's not optimized. The actual viewing experience is fine once you get into a movie or show, but the whole loading and menu experience is just painful

HBO Max updated on the PS5 but I assume they updated across a few different platforms as well. I've had issues ever since.

I have a TCL Roku and the only app that sux is Netflix. Constantly sputtering. I haven't had trouble with HBO.

My TCL Roku works great, not sure what people in here are doing wrong. I don't even use my PS4 or Xbox for streaming anymore, it's all easier through the Roku apps on my TCL.

Oh, and I haven't tried HBO Max in about a week (been on vacation), but it's most likely a problem on HBO's end, since their app has always been prone to problems.

I have been errors on the Xbox One more frequently too over the last month, sometimes I have to try and play the show like 4 times and it keeps saying "This show cannot be played, try again later"

The scroll bar when watching something changed and they added "Skip Intro" to more of the library. At least that's all I've noticed so far.

ah skip intro can be pretty clutch so that's good, but not at the expense of the whole app being unable to load

though now that i think about it cant even think of many shows on hbo that would benefit from it. i recall using it for Succession, but i mostly just watch Curb reruns lmfao hahahaha

They added it to more non-HBO shows now. I can now skip the Impractical Jokers intro lol
