I work with Indigenous youth on a daily basis, both as a teacher and as a Youth Care Worker in a group home for wards of the province.

There has been a movement all around Canada in reaction to this. It is a reminder of the attempted genocide of our Indigenous youth and the generational trauma that still heavily impacts them all today.

The youth I work with were also taken from their families. Justified in nearly all circumstances of course, but how do you tell a 13 year old kid to trust the government when the legacy of their government is this?

All I know to do is keep working hard to support these youth and use my voice and vote to try and get them more support.

Well thankfully there is still an Indigenous population that exists in Canada. Around 5% of Canada's population identifies as Indigenous and there is an estimate that there are many more who lie about it or don't know that they are.

As someone with no knowledge of Canada, could you give me some information on this? It it just cases where the parents were guilty of neglecting their children, or something else?

Yes, almost always. Some called child advocacy on themselves but many were removed from their family by the government due to their living situation being seen as dangerous or neglectful.

They would usually tell families that the kid "ran away" according to something I saw on CNN about this. Unfortunately all the perpetrators are dead and can't provide answers.

Oh yeah, it is ghoulish.

The Canadian government stole kids from their parents under the pretense of giving them an education. They tossed them into residential schools that were, essentially, trying to turn them into white kids. They were beaten for talking their language, sexually abused, and malnourished. I call it an attempted genocide only because many survived.

It has left generational trauma that still exerts intense grief and trauma today. It is horrific.
