Just re-watched it again, and it seems that The Thing's main weaknesses are extreme heat, explosives, and high voltage electricity.

You never see it's pure form, and can imitate a biological creature almost flawlessly.

Obviously the Thing. As soon as it sampled a Xenomorph it would have all the Xenomorph DNA.

Also the Thing isn't really "weak" to fire, or electricity, or anything. It's probably more resiliant than most life forms to heat and cold. You can make it go dormant, but it's basically like the T-1000 in that you need to drop it into lava/molten steel to kill it, otherwise it sleeps for 10,000 years and regenerates.

No chance in hell.

Even the Xenomorphs acid blood would only damage it.

Unless you destroyed literally every cell of a Thing, it is still a threat.

In the movies and games, even if you burn or blow up or shoot a Thing, it just plays dead until it gets a chance to break apart or grab someone. If it ever felt like it was in a serious danger, it would just stow a piece of itself in a safe place to try again later. That is because its not just some stupid monster that is trying to eat. The media around it shows that its fucking smart.

The Thing is one of the most dangerous types of movie monster aliens.

That's a good point TC (and that's something I never thought I'd say) - brute force/laceration which is xenomorph main attack doesn't do much, not sure whether their acid would either

Whether the Thing can deal with the molecular acid blood is a big deciding factor.

I'm not convinced it could just assimilate something that corrosive.

You'd need a lot of acid to kill something as... cellularly freeform...? as The Thing. Unlike heat and electricity, acid isn't conductive.

It doesn't have to kill it outright, but it can still be a significant hindrance. It can imitate organic matter, but it needs time to do so. That acid works quickly.

The Thing has clear limitations, but we're talking about it as if it could have just marched in and attacked directly like it was The Blob.

Hmm, the Blob... Now there would be an interesting addition.

Whatever form the Thing starts the fight in, it sprouts tendrils and engulfs the xenomorph, which panics and claws at it. Eventually, the tendrils wrap so tightly that it ruptures the xenomorph's exoskeleton, partially corroding part of the Thing, but it's already too late; the Thing's cells have begun to replace the xenomorph's.

Humanity is f***ed.

It all really depends on what form it starts the encounter with.

Maybe the thing is a hibernating sample that a human ship took on along with an alien egg. Power goes out or some other wacky event that lets all the samples free.

The egg makes a Xenomorph baby and the Thing snags a human and it goes on from there.

In this situation, its a race for the Xenomorph to kill every other person on the ship, before the Thing assimilates them. The numbers game would be way too strong if it was even 2 Things tracking down the Xeno, because its going to try and blend in and help the humans delete the threat.

It really depends on how the xenos would react to an assimilated one. For all we know they'd be able to sense something was ducky with the new one that just wandered in.
