Is it a turn off if your date disclosed that they don't how to cook, have zero interest, and prefer eating convenience food and takeout?

Turn off tbh. My partner will have to be able to cook basic stuff at least.

That's fine because I love cooking and I can cook for us.

Nevermind. If she a picky eater then we can't have a serious relationship.

Like, here's hoping she's not picky, but "convenience foods and takeout" are sugar and salt bombs (and I love them plenty for what they are), but it's pretty dang hard to get something with nuanced flavor or big excitement with takeout. Even with all the excellent Thai, Mexican, Japanese, etc. restaurants, I somehow doubt my imaginary date who only eats "convenience foods and takeout" has a wide and sophisticated palate.

As long as she'll eat my cooking I don't care.

I'd judge them as pathetic and childlike. If they can't do basic self care like preparing meals, what other self care are they skipping on?

That's a little harsh, but yeah, I find it a little off putting when adults claim they can't cook

It's a turn off just cause I can't help but see it as lazy... especially if it's not like a "I'm so busy, I can't make time to cook" thing.

True

And like if you're in your early 20s, then fine I can understand, but if you've gotten older than that and you still can't do it, then goddamn that's real pathetic.

I'm 40+ and any woman that I date would be at least 35. Anyone that age that can't cook is worrying tbh.

I'm the same (if not worse) so it'd be pretty hypocritical to fault her for it. Wisdom says we should both get with someone who isn't like this in order to throw in some healthy meals in our lives, but my picky eating overpowered wisdom decades ago.

I think cooking is a fun way to bond, romantically or platonically. So the "zero interest" would be something of a turn off.

Yes its great! The way I see it, we both contribute in different ways and we compliment each other. Im terrible at being handy or IT stuff. He does all the yard work and takes out the trash and recycling every week. So me cooking for us is fine. And because he doesnt really care what he eats, he never gets butthurt if Im not in the mood to make anything or eats whatever I make without complaining.

Even if she would still eat my cooking, that's a big no. My partner and I have talked about how lucky we are that we both enjoy cooking, because as much we like it neither of us wants to be the one cooking every single meal.

I greatly enjoy cooking as a hobby but could probably get by with someone who doesn't have that in common with me. However, I eat a specific diet for health reasons and it excludes fast/junk food besides the occasional treat, so anyone who relies on that kind of food is probably going to be incompatible in other ways related to health and fitness.
