Masao 05/27/21 10:09:41 AM #1:	A few years ago I went to a conference at some big shot law firm. I was there to meet two lawyers. So when I sit at the conference room they already have their business cards neatly set up on the table facing the chairs that were assigned to us. And they look at me all high and mighty expecting me to pull out my business card. I'm like... why would I bother bringing a business card to the meeting? I've been communicating with those guys for months, they have my coordinates. They don't need my business card if they already have all my coordinates. They just jumped at the opportunity to slyly insinuate that it's too expensive for me to print out business cards. Then they told me that if I needed help to pay for my bus ticket back I could ask their receptionist. It's a way to assert that you're somebody as typically you only get a business card once your reach a certain level within the company (unless you are in a sales role, then you have a business card at any level). I'd say business cards are used around 20% of the time for their intended purpose- to have someone's contact info in a convenient setup- but the other 80% is just to flaunt your position within the company. Hell, I'm guilty of it too. But when you are in a competitive market for getting clients or getting funding, you have to play the game or fall behind. --- Congratulations! Each person got a box of them with all our info printed nicely.
