Ok, I haven't been to CE in a while. Is that word allowed here now?

I was using the term male and female to describe gamers in a post, since not all are men and women (got kids and all). Some woman claimed it was disparaging and I was sexist for saying female. She dared me to call her a female and I didn't because the whole thing got weird fast.

I argued that in the context I was using it, it wasn't disparaging at all. Next thing I know I was banned for sexism.

The weirdest thing I've ever seen in all my years of interneting. Quite literally.

The posts are most likely still there if you don't believe it. On the gaming forum the thread about women making up 41% of PS4/5 sales. It just went down this morning.

Doesn't matter who believes it. I just hope not to get banned for something fucking dumb as hell here.

Both I guess. I chose to use male and female in that situation. I wouldn't call my 11 year old cousin with a PS4 a woman, or a 12 year old boy with a console a man which is why I used those general terms when speaking of gamers.

I feel like I need to abandon this thread now.

I feel like something more probably happened. Everytime these type of stories pop up, the person downplays their behavior. That's not to say that Resetera doesn't easily ban people, but still.

I was only a member for 2 days and thought the place was odd. The approval process and selective email address acceptance seemed off.

It's like no one really talks to each other on a human level but it's super active. Then I saw it was formed by butthurt mods from Neogaf in 2017 who took a shitload of posters with them which is why they all have the same join date.

I later saw wiki page about it saying how bizarre it all is and the unusual shit they ban for. Glad I'm out.

Someone jumped in and said it's a derogatory term for woman. She called me a "misogynistic nerd" for using it but I guess that's ok. There was no getting through to her on why I wasn't using it in a bad way.

You are not considering them as a person and are instead breaking them down to a single characteristic. It is insulting and people often do it intentionally while feigning ignorance. These people never use male in the same fashion. It is clearly meant to be sexist.

I did not attack anyone. I only explained why it is an issue. If people are unintentionally using the word in that manner, I am telling them why some people have a problem with it.

In this case I was using male and female in the same post when talking about gamers. There was nothing offensive or sexist about it to me.

"I personally only know two females who own and play a console and a ton of males. Gaming boards are dominated by males"

The post that started it all. I had no reason to say men and women since some of the people I was talking about were kids. lol

Fuck that place. Why is "female" singled out as offensive but not "male'.

Yeah, you used male and female in the same manner. There is no reason to assume you were being sexist based on that. Some people are just looking to be offended. They can be very annoying and they are often actually detrimental to the cause they are tying to defend.

I was being lazy but did think about it afterward. I use the word female in certain situations (female gamers would be one). I also use the word male. And yes, I have called people black, gay, transgender, etc. Specifically, most of these people are my friends. I am liberal, feminist, LGBTQ proponent, but as you yourself said "Some people are just looking to be offended". Try looking in the mirror. Hardly anyone cares if those words are being used in the right context. Not saying TC is innocent mind you, because I don't trust that he meant it in good faith. But the words themselves can be fine, and there are some people on the left that go way too far and it actually makes progress worse by causing everyone else to fight back.

I read the topic on ResetEra. TC, you werent being offensive and the context you used the words in was appropriate. People on ResetEra go out of their way to be offended. Most of them dont even live in the real world. People get warned or banned there for the most ridiculous things. I have some collages that Ill post soon so you can see for yourself.

Isn't ResetEra era literally a gaming website for MtF trans people?? I was always under that impression. And yeah, their moderation is strict regarding that issue; I'd simply keep my distance.

Resetera moderation is usually overcorrective as hell but I'm guessing there's more to this than you're letting on.

Yeah, there is no problem with "female gamers". No one should ever get mad about that. Female is an adjective in that case. Gamer is the noun. It is okay to refer to people as gay, black, or transgender when you are using the words as adjectives. That is how they are meant to be used.
