The capital is Taipei, which, along with New Taipei and Keelung, forms the largest metropolitan area of Taiwan. Other major cities include Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan and Taoyuan. The United States officially acknowledging Taiwan as its own country may cause World War 3 if China sees this as an act of war (which they probably would.)

Highly doubt it. Would just raise tensions in an already highly strained economic relationship.

If The United States declares Taiwan its own country it would be seen by China as an attempt to delegitimize its claim to the Chinese mainland. China for various reasons cannot let this happen so they may feel war is the only option.

The US and China both have intercontinental warheads. Direct warfare isn't an option. Maybe proxy wars for global influence, but even that seems pretty far fetched.

Edit: non of this matters because the US isn't going to recognize Taiwan.
