I watched that show before Game of Thrones and was thus dumbfounded when people complained and said GoT was a porno.

I don't think there's a single female character, at least in S1 of Spartacus, that you don't see completely naked. Hell, the same is true for most of the male characters. It's also the only show I've seen where topless women just stand around in the background in like 40% of the scenes.

it's sad watching through the series, and after one of the episodes, it says how the lead actor died, and that's why Spartacus was recast.

I lost interest completely after Whitfield died. It didn't just suck without him, I just really enjoyed the businesslike aspect of gladiator combat. It was like a sports drama.

I know it inevitably had to be about his uprising, but it was different in more ways than one.

i remember that. Liam McIntyre did well. even he admitted he was no Andy Whitfield. Though Gannicus has my most quoted line of the whole series. "then i shall drink and fuck in your name!"

moved on to the gods of the arena season. gotta love ganicus. There's an episode in the vengeance season where illithya has sex with her husband Gaius even though he's soaked in blood. It was clearly a simulated scene btw.

Great show and one of the best for violence and sex. It had something for everyone and I miss the show but they knew when to end it.

One awesome touch is that in season 1, Glaber tells Spartacus: "the Thracian finally learns his place before me: on his knees"

Then in Vengeance they flip the script and have Sparatacus say the same thing to Glaber before he offs him.

I never caught the significance of that line til later since there was a large gap between seasons.

There are a lot of call backs and call forwards in the show, it really does keep to its own continuity.

Then pretty much never watch anything about Rome. Gladiator is basically the most tame you will ever get when it comes to Roman based shows/movies. The Romans specialized in the obscene.

Like I tell other people the show can be summed up as over the top violence and titties. There. You have Spartacus. At least they stuck fairly close to the actual historical events with some broad strokes to make it interesting
