Fun multiplayer with friends. Best music especially rainbow road. Iconic courses. Very difficult but super effective shortcuts. The CPU don't seem rigged like they're all teaming up to get you.

Lol, no. MK64 doesn't hold up. It hasn't been the best since DD came out. These days MK8D is far and away the best.

Mario Kart 64 is actually the worst mainline Mario Kart. 64 was so bad that it wasn't even the best Kart Racer during it's time period, Crash Team Racing and Diddy Kong Racing were both better.

Every Mario Kart since then (aside from Super Circuit on GBA) pretty easily surpassed 64 and was also the best kart racer during it's time period.

Literally my favorite video game. The courses, battle mode, music, and 4 player fun in general put it over any of the others by far for me.

I do really like all the games though, and Wii has grown a lot on me.

Still for me it's 64 > DD > Wii > 8/8D > DS > SC > SMK > 7

Its the best. Not by modern video game standards or anything but just pure damn fun. And by far the best soundtrack as well. MK8 is better from a gameplay point but 64 I would load up with a group of friends out of any other Mario kart any day.

DD was god awful at high CC, get hit once by a shell in first place on lap 2 and you can say hello to a 5th place finish despite not getting hit the rest of the race. AI cheated like crazy.

Also DD's battle mode had terrible maps, give me back the the 4-colored forts and the 9th circle of hell full of green shells at the bottom level.
