She hasnt told me yet but my friend at work told me. Shes both of ours manager.

Funny that she kept promising me that she will line up a promo for me when I get back from leave, to trust her, etc. But I knew better not to.

Already have interviews lined up because I had a feeling but still sucks to know it was never going to happen. Just annoying that I have to start over at another company but oh well I guess. Hopefully I get a decent pay bump.

I have interviews lined up with 7 companies btw lol

Typical. Job culture nowadays has taught us that it's every person for themselves. Don't take anyone's word at face value unless the dotted line or check has been signed.

Become an entrepreneur and you dont have to deal with taking shit from your superiors and youll have a much higher ceiling of earning potential and happiness/fulfillment of your work in general.

Get it in writing (ask her to do you one last favor) and then show your new boss. Not guaranteed to work, but you never know

Yes and Im probably going to try for it if I can, but I doubt it given they wont even promote me to lead which is one level below hers.

Yup I knew better not to. She kept saying she had a plan for me, outlined it and all. But Ive been hearing that for too long. Its clear my skills arent appreciated there which is funny because other companies see my background and see how valuable I can be.

Its all good. I expected it. Everyone in our org is quitting. Every time I look at work emails, its a new person quitting. I knew it was a matter of time before my boss quit.

We literally wrote out a development plan for me when I came back. In January 2020. It was why I bothered coming back. With a plan to promote me August 2020. Then we merged with another company and I was told not to worry. Then they froze all promos in August and I was supposed to get promod the next cycle. Right before I went on maternity leave. So they passed on me then too and said they would promote me at the following cycle once I returned. It was clear that they just didnt want to pay me more right before maternity leave for 6 months. Now that shes gone and its all the new companys decision, theres no one left to advocate for me.

more the totality of it, because you've given this company numerous and every chance to do you right, even quitting and coming back etc. it's just disappointing that they really just ultimately showed they didn't care. what a cold world

Yeah its crazy. Started off with 3 and now its 7. 5 of which I didnt even apply to. Folks are just reaching out to me left and right. Some are connections Ive made and others just see my background and see how valuable I can be to their company. I just hate that I have to start the climb over. I really want to move up into management and not do grunt work forever. So Im going to be very selective of where I go next.

but after 1-3 years you can switch again into a management job, right? That's at least how things work in my industry. I was promoted last November, and if I nail this interview, I'll be promoted again.

corporate culture is bullshit and it seems like you've known that for a good while. while I encourage you to drop them like a rock and move on, you got six months of parental time making well into the six-figures. move on and leave any resentment.

Oh I know, Im very grateful for that. They also covered my IVF expenses. So I dont regret coming back. It was the right choice even if it meant taking a step back career wise.

Wahhh I just scheduled an interview with one of my dream companies. Could mean a huge pay increase if I got an offer. Might require relocation though ugh. Gonna do the interview and see where it takes me. Talked to my husband about it and if the offer was really good, we could always put our house for rent and stay in an apartment for a few years. Interview is in a few weeks.

My boss texted me today to let me know the news. She said she did talk to her manager about my promo for when I get back and shes 99% sure it will happen. Not sure if I want to trust that or not. Im a bit conflicted. Either I put faith in it and cancel my interviews to give it a shot in September. Or I give up on it and start over somewhere else.

Would your interviews lead to possible new positions that would start before September?

Honestly with a merge. I would just do what your gut instinct is telling you to do. Unless you can make a new friend soon. Or catch someones eye. Other than your boss. That can help with the promotion. Your putting your own choices at risk. The word of someone long gone, is nothing.

If your making as much money as I think your making. Just keep grinding. Managerial or not. Eventually you'll retire happy.

Lololol I dont know if any of you remember but they wanted me to train a junior member on my team with no experience to take over for me during leave. Which I had found insulting. But I trained her and taught her everything I knew. You could tell she was completely overwhelmed by it all and kept saying she didnt know what shed do while I was gone.

Well she also gave her notice. She wants a less stressful role. I feel bad because she had good skills but they just didnt realize how challenging my work is. They should have started her off with smaller stuff.

Im a technical recruiter for a tech company. Because I work internally, Im not your typical commission based recruiter. I manage our applicant pool and also headhunt to search for good talent. Mostly roles like software engineers, designers, PMs, data scientists, etc. I also create hiring strategies or provide interview training to my teams. I have an engineering background which makes me highly sought after by other companies because I know exactly what to look for or how to manage hiring managers when they ask for stuff that doesnt make sense. I hit very high numbers because of that.

Yeah thats what Im leaning towards. Going to chat with my boss tomorrow because I want to know the exact specifics of the promo. I could hold off until September and if it doesnt happen by then, I can resume interviews. Its very easy to line stuff up. But if it doesnt feel sincere then Ill keep interviewing and take the hit. Ill get to a manager role eventually. I just dont want to recruit forever. My industry is very harsh with older recruiters and as I turn 36 soon I just know I need to look for upward mobility.

Yeah Im very guarded. One of the companies I spoke to will offer me a role to indirectly lead a team and then promote me to manager within a year. So unless I have a concrete outline, if not outright promotion right now, then Ill keep interviewing.

Talked to my boss today. I guess now her boss is panicking at the thought that I might not come back. They are talking about pushing my promo. I asked for a specific timeline and she said she will get that for me in a day or two. She understands that I need it to be a concrete thing before I would even contemplate it.

From what she said, the higher ups now regret not doing it sooner. And Im the last senior member of the team standing and its a mess, theyre very worried I wont return. My boss said I could pretty much set my terms and they will be given to me. But she agreed I should continue to explore other places

So yeah, interesting turn of events
