And the person accepts the new knowledge then why are you still mad at the person?

That's usually not how it works on the internet.

That's how it should work. If you dunno then you should be glad to be informed of such things, and the informer should just be glad they were able to be helpful.

Why do that when you can just call people racist and stupid if they disagree with you?

That's seemingly how it never happens though.

Usually people don't care if they're uneducated in a subject and they'll just reject any new information and pretend like they know what they're talking about even though they have a surface level understanding of the topic.

This. People have egos, so when you tell them something new, their first response is to get defensive and take it as a personal attack, and often just try to swing back at you.

I mean you at least can lead them to a path to get an understanding especially if you're going to berate them for being uninformed.

If you educate someone and they throw out your education and believe what they want anyway, then can you mock and criticize them?

Im not. I love being corrected with facts and I love correcting others with facts, because its never about ego for me and an opportunity to learn should always be appreciated.

The problem is, people push their ideas with such confidence that when theyre proven false, they end up embarrassed and therefore double down to save face instead of just admitting they were wrong.

People don't want to be educated and people don't want to educate with good intentions

This is untrue though. Like I definitely would be willing to try, it's just that anytime I have tried before I can tell that nothing is sinking in and they just double down on there former beliefs.

So I don't bother now, especially with the way the world is at this point.

Like if I used a word that's offensive and I genuinely didn't know it was offensive and you told me it was then I'd apologize and to not use that word or term again, would you still be mad?

They did an Adam Ruins Everything segment on this. IIRC, being pointed out factual information to disprove someone will often make them dig their feet into the dirt and push harder against the facts. It's been a long time since I've seen the episode but it had something to do with them believing the facts so truly that you pointing them out for being wrong is like an attack on their identity and so they push back even more forcefully.

I'm at work so I can't look up the clip, but you should try and find it. Actually I think it's called "Why Proving Someone Wrong Often Backfires". It's only like a minute 40 clip.
