Even though Persona 4 got me into the MegaTen series, I prefer SMT. Coming off Pokemon, I love the far greater degree of freedom it gives you with making your team, as opposed to Persona (at least, 3, 4, and 5) where you only have control over the main character. I also prefer the tones of the SMT games more as well.

SMT is so much more sauced. persona is fun but smtiv is what got me into the series and that look and feel trumps the weeb shit for me

It's a real shame that for all its gameplay improvements, the story and characterization goes right back into the "weeb shit".

Same issue I had with Devil Survivor 2. Better gameplay than DeSu1, comparably worse, more "anime-infused" story than DeSu1.

idk cuz Persona is stylish as fuck and I love rhe waifus, but SMT has such a good atmosphere and the gameplay is harder which I like

Persona, honestly. Time management and how you choose to spend your days is an intricate aspect, whereas in SMT it's more straightforward to wander/grind as you'd like.

as far as SMT goes, I've only played Nocturne (which is one of my favorite games).

so from my experience, I prefer Nocturne for the story and atmosphere, and Persona for the social element (sometimes).
