Would you laugh if you saw that username in a zoom chat?

Michigan's 3B District Court Judge, Jeffrey Middleton has announced that his daily live streams, which has become an internet sensation will now come to an end after a defendant used an extremely inappropriate username for the proceedings!!

He is pulling the plug on the Youtube livestreams as he expressed concern that the videos were being used for entertainment purposes instead of educating the public

He said "I don't have a television show. I am not looking to have a 44 million syndication deal. We don't want t make any money off of these videos..we didn't set out to be Youtube stars"

A spokesperson for the Michigan Supreme Court however says they are urging him to reconsider stating it is critically important to maintain public access to the judiciary while court bulidings are still closed to protect public health

A man facing a charge of drug possession logged into his virtual court appearance with a very offensive username as Middle eviscorated him calling suspect, Nathaniel Saxton a "fool" and "idiot" and threatening to charge him with contempt of court but he claims his SISTER made the account for him and apologized for the inside joke.

His streams already went viral when in March, a suspect in an assault case was also in the same room as his VICTIM. A prosecutor noticed something was off when the victim in the case was looking off to the side while giving testimony and was worried for her safety.

The hearing ended with 21 y/o Cody Harris arrested and having his bond revoked

Would you laugh if you saw that username?

I believe there is an amendment protecting this...might even be the 1st. But while you can say what you like you still can have consequences for it. But I don't see the need to stop the streaming of them over it.

threatening to charge him with contempt of court
That is quite an overreaction to a user name. They required that he attend using Zoom. He shouldn't be judged on what else he may use Zoom for.

However, I doubt this incident alone lead to the decision to end Youtube livestreams. It sounds it was a bunch of things leading up to that decision and the user name was just an interesting hook to get people to read the article.

Also the title is misleading as the Judge didn't ban the use of Zoom.
