My thoughts on Resident Evil 8:

I absolutely loved it. At first I wasn't sure, vampires, warewolves. Middle eastern village (didn't we do that in 6?) but I digress, the further into the game I went the more I found that they improved everything that I had gripped about 7 about (and there wasn't much, 7 was only improperly paced that lagged sagged in the 2nd half of the game, or after your killed margeret. Also, it had a shitty final boss that only had you kill a scripted scene rather than an official boss fight)

Village nailed it because 1: The vampire lady? She's a Tyrant. YEP. No different from RE 2/3 right there for the first 1/4th to 1/3rd of the game.

By the time I finished the castle, I thought I was halfway done with the game (judging by 7's pacing). I was wrong. I was maybe 1/4th of the way done. So there, game length and pacing is phenominal. This game just DOES NOT let up.

The only time it DOES let up is for you to go back and get some optional stuff that you might leave behind. Extra puzzles that give you stuff for the merchant, as well as hunting cooking meals to upgrade your Ethan.

Man, this game had more than I thought because I set my standard and bar so low. Every boss fight was a struggle. Every set point had a undertone and deeper meanings are pulled outta the game the more you understand who is involved. The cliffhanger at the end? I know exactly where we're going for 9 fellas. BSAA headquarters is in Europe so back we go to where the new plague all started.

Arbitrary gaming confession: I've had my copy of 7 for a couple years and haven't played it. I want to. But I also want to experience it in VR. Which I can, since I have a PSVR. But the PSVR is just kind of inconvenient to use, so I just haven't. You gotta like, be ready to focus on it 100% for a block of time, right? But I have used my PSVR a few times since I bought 7 to play shorter things, which for some reason occupies a different space in my "What-should-I-do" psyche. I'm a mess.

I wish I had a PSVR as well, but they're very expensive now... But tbh I wouldn't play RE7 on it. Too scary.

I might be able to help with that as I have the same issue but with Fallout 4 and skyrim. I own both of those games on multiple consoles. VR is a totally different experience (I personally don't like the clumsiness of moving in VR and I currently have a Valve Index, which is pretty much the best VR on the market).

VR has so far ruined my experiences in both of those games because of how slow and clunky movement is compared to controller movement in the normal games. Takes too long to get stuff done, handling icons is only half assed in VR meaning that interactable items are not FULLY interactible in VR like in real VR games.

In all, I think you should enjoy 7 on its own first on the difficulty that suits you the best. Beat it, then come back in VR and try that out on it's EASIEST setting. That way you know what you're doing, nothing is confusing and you won't have to deal with all that plus motion fatigue (like motion sickness) will prevent you from playing the game for many hours straight like you can with a controller/monitor.

Its truly an amazing game and it makes up for the disappointment of R3make. I found myself loving Ethan as a character, and then after the obvious happened, I decided that yes, yes I love Ethan and he will be one of my all-time favorite RE characters.

It's not photorealistic in VR. having been inside 3D games that were not meant for VR, you get the sensation like you're playing a pop up book versus actually playing a real VR game.

Real VR games have weight to items you pick up, things interact in a more realistic way.

RE7 VR isn't going to be any diff from borderlands 2 vr, Fallout 4 or Skyrim. It's kind of game breaking, to tell you the truth.

For example, guns feel fake when you shoot them. You don't release the magazine like you would in a real VR game, cock and reload....you just push a button and reload like in a controller game in RE7.

When you swing your knife it's like playing on a wii instead of actually swinging a real knife, is another glaring example.

The pacing is wildly off. It is also obvious there are four "sections", considering the intro to the bad guys. The first section's castle was a fun like 4 hour exploration and puzzle solving set. It felt like Resident Evil and was awesome. Then section 2 was over in about 45 minutes, and it seems like 3 is also going to be super short.

The game really feels tonally all over the place with sections that are like a greatest hits of horror tropes. You just shuffle off to a new area, experience some new random kind of gameplay loop, then it's over. It doesn't give you enough time to experience some of these sections and as such the pacing suffers. I expected each boss to get the exposure and level design of Lady D, but section 2 was barely anything and was over in a flash. I have a problem with that.

Did you try on hardcore? I felt that was the soft spot for both 7 and 8

Thanks, this is good advice! If I just play it normally first, it won't be intimidating to pick up at all, and then it also won't be as intimidating to play in VR on my 2nd run, too.

I liked it but it is very flawed. A bit too "gamey" but so are most/all other RE games so I didn't have an issue with it. The more I think about it the more it reminds me of RE4 which I didn't like.
I played on normal and didn't have ammo "problems" until the last area before the final boss, but I hadn't used almost any resources on crafting so it wasn't an issue.
I started a hard mode run to beef up weapons to try the hardest mode later. I got bored and dropped it to play ME:LE.

I'm not too fond of Mercenaries but I've never cared for that mode. I think I did only 4 areas.
I have some issues with the mode but I'm not willing to share them right now and its just personal preference issues so they're not really worth bringing up.

I would definitely recommend fans of RE to play it UNLESS they didn't like RE7 since its so similar.
