Say what you will about the rest, but the original was incredibly well written and shot, giving us a fantastic thriller mystery

I really enjoyed the first. Didn't really think of it as a horror though, more of a thriller with a neat twist.

They flogged it to death after that though.

I might agree if only because early 2000's horror was dogshit.

But Turbam is right, the acting is really bad.

Nope. Imo, horror villains that are regular humans that can be easily be killed by normal means loses a lot of fear factor for me.

That's a very narrow viewpoint that cuts out some of the best horror movies of all time. Not to mention at no point in Saw could any of his victims have easily killed him

You have it backwards. Regular humans are the only scary villains because they actually exist.

I think that complaint is more towards the sequels, where the gore is a lot more gratuitous and unnecessary.

The first Saw really wasn't that much more violent than any other R-rated movie. The series started getting really ridiculous around 3.

Just watched the entire series with my girlfriend over the past few days.

Saw 1 still holds up. Even though its editing is DEFINITELY early 2000s lmao

This. When I saw it in the Theater, it was in the same category as movies like Se7en in my mind. Was super confused when people have recently been referring to it as horror.

Personally I found The Ring incredibly boring and not scary at all. The premise just didn't grab me at all. Do get plenty like it/found scary though.

Fine, I'll spell it out for for you.

See the guy laying in a pool of blood the entire movie? He was the killer and alive (in a drugged up state) the entire movie. See the saw the film is named after and the gun? Those are called weapons they can very easily kill a man, especially if that man is drugged on the floor and probably has pretty limited movement. You with me so far? Now use your big boy brain for this question, what would happen if they used said weapons on said man? I strongly suggest taking your time with this one, you wouldn't want to embarrass yourself by getting it wrong.

Yes, that's all very good, except he wasn't drugged, they were chained to the wall and couldn't use those weapons on him if they wanted, nor did they have any way to know that he was alive, let alone that he was jigsaw. So at no point was he ever in danger.

Again, pay attention next time you watch the movie, the first and last part of that are both false.

The Ring was a fucking sick ass movie to see in the theater especially if you knew nothing about the movie beforehand. My favorite horror movie.
