Jim Sterling?
That guy who gave BotW a 60 and singlehandedly dropped its metascore from a top 5 of all time to a top 14?
That Jim Sterling?
Fuck him

he got death threats for that.

Uh no.

Jim Sterling may be many things, but "pandering" is not one of them.

If anything, Jim's thing is anti-pandering. They pretty much drop any part of the channel that becomes popular. If they wanted to pander, they would do endless Jimpressions. Instead we get depressing Jimquisitions and loveable mascots such as the cornflake homonculus.

Sure it does. People are engaging with the content in a different way, or new/different people are engaging with it, the robot overloard sees new vector for channel and recommends it out of some weird robot logic.

So surely it's happening to other YouTubers then yeah?

Jim has been in steady decline for awhile now. Trying to cope with it now crying transphobia is cringe and sad.

The fact is Jim's most popular content, The Jimquisitions, have become less and less about videogames and more and more about moral grandstanding about how capitalism bad and gamers (his fucking audience) are evil and trash. You can only do that so long before people just get bored and tired of it.

Channels trend downwards and die off all the time, especially when youtube purges dead subscriber accounts.

Jim's content has been on the decline over the past year, even before the makeup and subsequent ridiculous wig

So this happened to other YouTubers and the timing is a coincidence?

Should be easy to prove by showing some other YouTubers who had their subscribers drop at a similar rate yeah? I know this does happen when subscribers are purged. Several of them complain about it.

I'd say it's because you can't.

If I look at the stats of another outraged YouTuber like YongYea he doesn't have this issue at all. They're basically in the same sort of wheelhouse so if there was nothing specific to Sterling then I dunno why YongYea wouldn't be impacted.

Let me turn it around on you then, since you want to take it past just bullshitting in a topic, how about you provide detailed statics of a few other channel's analytics showing them as sharply trending downwards after the channel owners come out as trans

I think peak Jim Sterling was the Konami/steam Greenwich content/Slaughtering Grounds stuff.

They shit on big companies just as often, but it felt new and it was interspersed with other topics. It was really fun. But it's been the same shit for years, and idk if they even does those types of things anymore. I loved his videos where they would play indie trash and shit on it especially.

Edit: also, Jim is VERY good at on the spot improv and NEVER utilizes it. Idk why.

Jim says in their video that the first video they posted with them as Trans they instantly lost 2k subscribers and most videos since then where they are visibly trans they've lost 1k+. And they weren't losing subscribers when they posted videos before this gender stuff happened so idk what more evidence you need than that.

They utilize it a little, and yes, they are quite funny.

I won't lie and say they don't feel a bit stale/tired and less "fun" than before. But the sub plummeting is clearly from the transness.

My sub sure as hell wasn't. I forget when I unsubbed, I THINK I was a bit salty when Jim let that one chick slide that shit all over a fan, Kate or something? That might have been it? Idk, it has been awhile. But Jim's content has gotten so, so, so stale. I would watch their videos sparingly, but I felt after awhile I could click on one and get the same rant if I clicked on another.

It's sad. I was watching since that shitty robot game they played way back when, back when most of their content was on The Escapist.

Why would I need to do that? It's about Sterling and their channel. Which is what the video in the OP is about. I'm not arguing that this isn't specific to Sterling. You are.

Your explanation doesn't really seem to hold up to any scrutiny as it doesn't seem to be happening to anyone else.

Sterling's content has felt repetitive to me, but I wouldn't say that's the fault of the youtuber as much as it is the gaming industry's fault for refusing to improve in multiple respects, like, I could name sexual harassment, the terrible working conditions that inflict crunch (long hours, no breaks, low pay), and verbal/psychological abuse, the use of gambling mechanics to turn gamers into gambling addicts, and I could go on and on, and so could Sterling. And, of course, there's youtube with it's unchanging problems that people complain about but can do nothing about.

I feel like I don't need to watch anymore because I have a general idea of the scope of the problem, and that it will never change because there doesn't seem to be a force capable of doing that, and if there is, then it's complicit, or it's been lobbied(bribed), or it just hasn't caught on with the times.

The consumer bears some responsibility too, because some games are too popular to fail, and very few people are going to let some "bad news" get in between them and the franchise they love.

Agreed. I will acknowledge some of Jim's content is less appealing because the horrible evil in the gaming industry no longer feels novel, we are all just kind of used to it. Whoever was supposed to stop it didn't and it just sucks and is shitty. But Jim is still right to talk about it, because it didn't get any less evil.
