There was a game that was like a Mayan version of Myst in the 90s but I don't remember its name.

Some of them clearly do. There's a lot of semi-stuff that I'm talking about in elder scrolls online

Because most game studios are American, European, or Japanese, and it's a lot easier to write lore based on stories and mythologies that you're intrinsically familiar with than with those that you are not.

And not to mention that a Norse-themed game is almost assuredly a far easier sell than a Mesoamerican-themed game in the said markets as well.

I've wondered this as well, at least for the African ones.

But yeah, it just comes down to not knowing about it, and the general public--especially in Asia--outright not caring for it.

Not knowing about it seems like a lame excuse to me. That's exactly why it would be cool, because most of us in the West don't know much about it either and it would be exciting to dive into something new and different

Dammit I would rather have single player. But that's cool. I'll keep my eye out for it once it gets a bit closer to actually releasing

I am surprised isn't more Aztec/Mayan stuff, lots of potential with it. Lots of potential with anything outside the usual ones though, but Aztec/Mayan stuff isn't exactly entirely unknown.

The closest thing to Native & Meso American fantasy I can think of in an RPG is Shadowrun. And it's not even purely fantasy, whole lotta cyberpunk in there too.

Like, some of the biggest lore events in North & South America literally reshaped territories and borders over the course of 70+ years.

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/shadowrun/images/b/be/SRNA-timeline.gif/revision/latest?cb=20150107190220&path-prefix=en

Rest of the world went through some upheavals too.

And of course GameFAQs destroyed the resolution. Ugh.

I'd argue Dinosaur Planet/Star Fox Adventures, too, though that obviously mixes it with a prehistoric setting.

Hell i don't think we have any native American fantasy, or even mythology, based stuff

This is more curious as we have the culture

Problem is we dont have as much Mayan/Aztec folklore, just some of their religion stuff and myths because the Mayans were already gone and the Aztecs were murdered.

Native American folklore is def there, but to be honest my experience has been is that its a bit deeper philosophically, like the Native American creation story. They were more implied substance than !plot like Egyptian myths etc. They didnt have as many big hero types like Jason and the Argonauts, and their gods were things like the Great Turtle rather than Zeus with his banhammer lightning.

In the end a lot of it is because they were oral tradition and not written down for a lot of Cultures of the Americas. Mayans didnt write anything down outside of basic hieroglyphics when it came to myths.

Seems like the Incas had a pretty strong mythology with a lot of the familiar stuff wed see in Greek/Roman.

Also for ancient African just look at Egyptian myths. We got a lot of African folklore too but it was once again a lot of oral tradition, I dont know of any epics like what formed the foundation of Greek myth, where you have this cast coming and going and changing out and referencing itself throughout
