Been playing on and off since August. Got well over 100 hours logged. Been super fun.

Top waifus so far

How many expansions are actually out now, though? I know Heavensward comes with the free trial, so I guess I'm already in that, but how many comes after?

Those are the other two expansions out at the moment. The next expansion, Endwalker, will be out in November. What's your favorite class(es) so far, and what do you think you might main?
Also, BTW, Stormblood is included for free with purchase of Shadowbringers, so you don't need to hunt down a copy of Stormblood.

I beat Ultima Weapon and the credits rolled. Now I'm back in the Waking Sand and everyone's clapping and congratulating me.

What's your favorite class(es) so far, and what do you think you might main?

I'm a Dragoon right now, and I really enjoy that. Once I'm able to access the Reaper they just announced, I might switch to that though.

I also kinda enjoy Archer and Rogue, but haven't really gotten them that far. I think I'm only in the 20s with them.

Cool. I thought it was just a monthly sub after you upgraded out of the free trial, though. You have to pay for the sub *and* all the extra expansions on top of that?

The main story of each part of the game has basically an epilogue story that transitions to the next expansion.

With Realm Reborn they were really focused on adding content to the game so they....bloated the Post RR story. Luckily for you they cut out a lot of the fat last year. Still a bunch of bullshit but there is some meat. They got a lot better at not bloating the main story after that

Beating RR also unlocks a LOT of optional content. Have fun!

Yes/no. You only pay for the *latest* expansion + the starter version(though, the starter version comes with 30 days free, so that kind of makes that moot) - all previous expansions are included for free. And even then you can usually find it on a nice discount (though they're not expensive to begin with, the MSRP is $40).

Gotcha.

Does this only apply to newer players though who start late? Like, if you've been playing from the start, do you have to keep paying for the new expansions as they come?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, so let me clarify:
Person A is playing currently in 5.5, and pre-orders the expansion to play 6.0. What they pay for is: monthly sub + price of the expansion.
Person B just now starts the game. They complete Heavensward as part of the free trial and now have two options:
1)Purchase Shadowbringers, which gives them the Stormblood expansion for free, and be able to play immediately.
2)Purchase Endwalker, and receive Shadowbringers and Stormblood for free, but be unable to actually play them until the release date of Endwalker(I believe this is still the case - I'm not entirely sure if they changed how pre-ordering expansions works).
Does this clarify things for you?

Like, after I pay for Endwalker and get everything up to that, if another expansion comes out a year or two from now, I'd have to pay again for that right? It doesn't just auto update because I paid for an expansion once before at some point, yeah?

Also, on a different topic, can I turn off the Chocobo music while I ride my Chocobo? lol It gets so annoying and I'd rather listen to the area's actual themes when going through them.

Yeah, we paid for every expansion when they came out. That's how it always is. Totally worth it in my opinion since all the expansions have been good (unlike ARR which was mediocre at best).

Ah, for your first question, yes. You only pay once for whatever expansion is currently out, and then again whenever a new expansion comes out. And yes, you can disable mount-specific music, in the uhh....sound settings, I think? Not sure, but that IS an option.

I think most jobs are pretty fun by the time you hit 50, but the gameplay is admittedly basic till then. Still, I kinda appreciate how the complexity of each job slowly ramps up

They actually addressed that in like.....5.3? Where they cut out a lot of the fetch quest nonsense, and it's apparently a lot faster now to get through post-50.

Honestly, everything in ARR was really bland, from the story to the variety in weaponskills. The biggest things that kept me interested was the Gold Saucer and crafting/gathering.

It ramps up once you get HW though, and keeps getting better.

I honestly haven't gone there once since it was introduced lol

I wouldn't personally say ARR has been boring or horrid to me, it's just slow. Which I appreciate in a way since it makes you get accustomed to the world and care about the people there. I feel like I would've clocked out early on if they threw a bunch of the main story right at you from the jump; I'd've felt overwhelmed.
