I hate it there but I am also scared they are so widespread because it means the world doesnt make sense, like tomorrow I could wake up and see fish floating around outside blowing air bubbles or my new neighbors be pink fuzzy crayon monsters, and everyone will be like " what are you talkin about this is perfectly normal and has always been a thing."

A gym...where lifting isnt allowed? A "judgement free zone"...that uses "lunk alarm?" What kind of people patronize it, is it like fat moms in their 50s who are just really easily intimidated? I am so confused that they are able to sustain their business model.

Edit: Oh yea I think they also have free pizza days, at least they used to

My dad loves the place. Hes an old trucker and its a good place that he can find pretty much anywhere and its a cheap option for him to get some regular exercise

You don't seem to understand who the actual clients are at a gym.
It's not the people who go to a gym constantly, those are only a small percent of people who pay for a gym membership.

The majority of the gym membership are people who want to be someone who goes to a gym constantly. They see strong people in the windows working out, being fit, being healthy, and they want to be like them. That's why the heavy lifting is by the windows, generally.

But, when they go in, they don't want to feel intimidated, and that everyone is a higher class then them. So, they want to feel like it's something that they could do.

They get a gym membership for a year (it's a good deal, and I'm going to start going to the gym next week!), and then if they stop paying, that's when they get gouged in fees and debt collectors start knocking.

PlanetFitness isn't selling to people who are already fit, they're selling to people who want to be fit.

So we are in agreement it's a s----- place

I've steered clear of gyms where everyone grunts obnoxiously loud before \_()_/

I imagine that's the idea. Either you go "oh god I'm never doing that again" or "oh god I'm getting out". Either way, problem solved.

I don't understand how it's supposed to be a judgement-free Zone but they seem to be pretty judgmental towards the lunks.
