For a second I thought WotW and RKC were next to each other in the bracket, what a relief!

Today I'll actually pick my favourite song of the day for once and go with Weight of the World! I've dulled myself to this song before from overexposure (without playing the game, mind you), but it still felt fresh and exciting when I listened to it today! I'm happy that fans of the superior version can have their moment after JP version made last year's bracket, End of YorHa died in noms year 13, and both EN and JP versions died in noms year 12! I've always liked English for its air of quiet determination coloured by desperation and self-doubt, and think it works perfectly with the backing track. That low piano hit at 3:44 always feels so rude, she's having a very poignant thought and the song is just like NOPE THERE IS NO HOPE FOR YOU

Two close matches, both in opposite directions.
Fairfrozen's alright for me in terms of the OSFE soundtrack, definitely not my go-to but it has more of what I like to hear.
I wasn't expecting Mekazoo to be this good, like damn. I'll pick Anistar for now, but I'll be alright with either winning.

I don't have much to say about the first matchup, except its kind of unfair to fairfrozen. I love that track. Its been in my playlist for weeks. But WotW is so personal to me that I am not hesitating in a second in giving it my vote.

Okay I .... I honestly don't know how to feel about Professional Problem, wow!! It's such a bizarre song that I feel like I'm enjoying it more than I ... Should? But, I do, I'm tapping my toes, I'm wiggling. I don't really understand it either but here I am!! Giving it my vote!!

Avian gets my love and respect and I cherish it, but Anistar just barely edges out. Thanks for reminding me Mekazoo is a thing I gotta check that out.

Weight of the World has always fallen somewhat flat to me - I think I just don't care much for the chorus melody as a climax of the song. Fairfrozen is pretty cool.
I like Professional Problem a lot more than the LSD song from last contest; still a bit sporadic but there's some cool stuff and catchy parts. Definitely a closer match than I expected.

MATCH 1

Fairfrozen as well as Wyrm's Jewelbox from last year suggests to me that I really like the chord changes that Hagane comes up with for their songs. The melodic component is, of course, important to me too, but I think the two are related here in that the melody sounds really cool because it goes along with these cool chord changes. All in all, yeah, Fairfrozen's pretty cool, and I'd vote for it over my bottom three songs for today, even though I like 2 of those.

I prefer the JP version of Weight of the World, but the English version is great too! Can't go wrong with emotional songs like this. My favorite parts are where the strings come in and add more polyphony to the song like during the chorus and at 3:47. Bit of a close match, but Weight of the World feels like a relatively clear pick.

MATCH 2

Secret Gust-Falcom crossover! I no longer have to worry about Gust vs. Falcom duels when this song does both. Is it any surprise that Rose-Killing Carmilla is the biggest highlight of today for me? I have it losing round 4 in my favorites bracket, but if it weren't for my finalist, Glessing Way, being there, I'd have it retire. Everything from those "scarlet sky is falling down" lyrics and onward is great. I can pretty much sum up my praise for this song with the "good melody and big sound" commentary I'd give for something like CIEL_N_PROTECTA.

While Rose-Killing Carmilla is definitely a me song, Professional Problem, and most Osamu Sato songs by extension, are fairly opposite in that regard. I feel like the things about this song that would be appealing to fans of it are things that I don't want to hear in songs. Once again, I'll refer to kaonashi's description of this song as a way of using words that are better than how I could describe it lol. I think the "strange and disorienting feel" bit is what this composer tries to go for with his songs and what fans of his music like about them, and I think he does this in a way that eschews the more conventional building of melody and harmony that I typically appreciate in a song, which is why I think these songs feel pretty anti-me. It's not so much that "weird" songs are anti-me, but perhaps it's more what makes them weird.

MATCH 3

I'm glad that I finally got around to playing some of the 3DS Pokemon games because there were some nice music discoveries from them. X & Y had some pretty nice city themes, and Anistar City is probably up there in favorite X & Y city/town themes. My #1 favorite is definitely Geosenge Town, but I think Anistar City competes with Dendemille Town and Snowbelle City for #2 and so on. With Anistar City, my favorite part is definitely the piano part from 0:36-1:04 (especially the first half or so of that). It's really calming, but also a bit mysterious. Makes me think of a character's route in a visual novel where the character in question isn't coming to school anymore or something and there's clearly something wrong, but you don't know what yet until you keep reading.

I feel like I should enjoy Avian Animosity a lot more than I actually do. My favorite part is definitely 0:48-1:09 with the guitar, but I'm not as interested in the rest of the song. I just don't feel like the melody holds my interest enough. That said though, this match is really close, but I'm slightly more into Anistar City.

Damn, I dig both songs in the first match. It's really hard to separate Weight of the World from the emotional context of that last ending, so I can't say for sure if this is the "right" call.

Carmilla is pretty good as far as "anime songs" go. Sure beats the hell out of VGMC-bait like Professional Problem.

The Pokemon song is nice and chill but, like most pokemon songs, there's no real meat to it. I've also listened to Avian Animosity three times now, and I have absolutely no idea if I like it or hate it, so fuck it, at least there's meat.

carmilla is a song by an ar tonelico composer sung by an ar tonelico vocalist, and its opponent, of a style that has never retired which was certainly given a very low seed, is the vgmc-bait. you need to step back and seek help

Haha, the easy vote form makes it seem like match one has a third song just called English Version. I'm surprised this is the point at which I'm breaking away from the "prog cluster" and my 100% compatibility with kaonashi1, but I absolutely can't get past how "loud" Rose-Killing Carmilla feels, as others have mentioned already. And Professional Problem is cool.
