I basically encounter 3 types of people:
Far-left
Far-right
Disengaged.

It's like pulling teeth to get a far-left person to admit something obvious like "yeah ok, maybe math isn't racist." or "yeah ok, biological differences in the sexes exist."
It's like pulling teeth to get a far-right person to admit something obvious like "yeah ok, maybe I shouldn't be afraid of a vaccine if I thought COVID was harmless." or "yeah ok, Trump was untrustworthy"

And it's also frustrating seeing the disengaged people, because I can understand them too, they see stupid shit everywhere but they get yelled at when they call it out.

But it's so frustrating seeing somebody who I think makes good points just fall down the stairs into MAGA land. It's like these people all get into their bubbles which have their own gravity wells and they just can't help but fall into a blind mindset that is so seldom self interrogative.

There's only a handful of people I've encountered that don't seem to fall into this trap, and it's frustrating. I mostly blame the internet and capitalism, as the most polarized are the loudest and most engaged, and loudness does tend to drown out reason, and reasonable people seldom are loud/aggressive.

Im super far right economically and super far left socially. Pretty much nobody likes me.

Everyone is somewhere on the political spectrum. No one is actually a centrist nor should we expect them to be. The problem isn't with left and right. Everyone is left or right. It's that we view those as singular entities.

the far left movement in this country has been dead for decades, theres literally no way you're meeting a ton of people belonging to it. and i have a hard time believing you're interacting with a ton of super far right people either

the truth of the matter is most people float around center left and center right and you've just got really base standards for political discourse where you think moderate leaning to either side is an extreme. basically the most useless variety of person politically

It's really hard to say, everybody's intuition is shaped by what they are exposed to. It's a function of how big the disengaged people are. I'd say the percentages might be comparable for the 2 sides. Though I often find people on the right think everybody on the left at all thinks that way and people on the left think everybody on the right thinks that way.

In short, without polls I can at best do a ballpark estimation of those perspectives as a function of what I've been exposed to, and that is certainly not something I'd claim as fact.

Honestly, it's amazing how often you show you have no education on a topic yet complete conviction that you're correct. I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not because of how hard you have to go out of your way to come up with some of your awful takes. But then you refuse to engage in any sort of conversation (just like "both sides") and refuse to listen to any sort of facts in topic after topic.

It's ok to have stances that fit both sides of thr pendulum. It's not ok to put your head in the sand in regards to a history of racism, economic facts, or the harm you're causing with your beliefs.

Edit: More joe takes, "I've never experienced racism, therefore it doesn't exist. I've never experienced poverty, therefore it doesn't exist." He just read about moral relativism once and believed that's all he can see. He doesn't care about the efficacy of randian politics, but some people are Libertarians so they must have some personal truth.

I've only met a few actual far left people in life. I'd say most Americans on either side of the political aisle just pick a side because they like a number of the attributes which that political party seems to possess, without delving too much into the theoretical beliefs which the party ultimately does endorse. Which leads to cultural clusterfucks that add on "politics" at the end.

If I remember right, that guy was pretty much saying that math is not always subjective because you have to define various domains. There can be instances where x+x = y, due to what base you're in, and other assumption.

If you are using math as a metaphor then you are no longer speaking about math. As Mr. Incredible so clearly stated, Math is Math.

Furthermore I'll draw attention to the fact you characterized it like as "like a grade schooler" despite it being just as accurately (if not more accurately) characterized as "like you would in a STEM school". The former having an implicit dismissive connotation that you likely thought you could sneak into the subtext.

But yes, those people are talking math as a metaphor and not like they do in the STEM fields, and as such they aren't talking about Math anymore. 2+2=4 in STEM and the M in STEM is Math. The M in STEM is not for "metaphor".
