I live in a country that is nothing like stalin's socialist hellhole, but since we have things like free education, free healthcare, free prescription medication and free access to mental health services, these are the talking points that causes america to resist anything that sounds even slightly like "not-capitalism". You can't have healthcare, that's socialism, right? And socialism is evil, remember kids.

None of that is free FYI. You have a far more regressive taxation system, more restrictive schools and of course some nice subsidization from England.

But the more important point is that you should recognize those as social services provided in a market economy and not try to rehabilitate Socialism.

It's funny that Sanders and AOC call for societies less left wing than mainland western Europe, Canada, New Zealand etc.

And yet the right calls them radicals and bring up Stalin and Mao

But you see I'm happy to do that. That's what patriotism looks like in scotland. Not so big on revering a flag or the military.

We're not really going to see eye to eye on this because I'm very much a scottish independence voter.

One of my favorite videos is that interview with a Scottish old lady on the day of Thatcher's funeral or whatever who was like really openly happy that she was dead and not ashamed in the slightest to say so on national telly
