Sorry if its been asked/mentioned already but what the hell caused all this? I know theyve been at each others throats forever but what specifically caused these recent events? Was it just slowly building up to this or did something crazy happen to escalate things?

Israel trying to forcefully remove a group of palestinians from their homes to expand territory for israel, the people didn't want to leave, israel forced them out with armed military forces, hamas got angry and fired a missile at israel, israel targeted one of the most important mosques in the world while people were inside and a bunch of casualties followed.

At least, I think that's how it is so far.

Hamas' missiles were in response to the Israeli attack on the mosque iirc. At least they were after the attack on the mosque but could have been a response to a dozen different atrocities.

Israel also used white phosphorus which melts skin and kills people in a heinous way. NATO banned its use, but Israel thinks the rules dont apply to them. Theyve fired missiles at each other for decades, but this is an outright declaration of war. I think the whole world is honestly tired of Israels bullshit, which always includes them picking a fight and everyone else fighting it.

Time to stop sending them money and military aid until they get with the times. Theyre literally trying to start WW3 and I hope that other nations refuse to play into it, for once. Neither side is without its faults, but Israel is the primary aggressor in this.

(criticizing a nation is not anti Semitic, so I dont want to hear any of that. The problem is with Israels government and military, not the citizens)

No prob. Getting the chain of events in order is definitely important and a lot of people on CE (not you of course) are purposely ignoring the fact that Israel were the ones to hit first here.

Youre forgetting that millions of Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and displaced from the countries their families had lived in for hundreds of years. Thats ignoring places where outright discrimination and pogroms were widespread even before WWII.

After something like that, you cant blame Jewish people for wanting a homeland and somewhere they could feel secure.

Of course, treating the Palestinians little better than Jewish people were treated during the Holocaust is inexcusable and sickens me to my core.

Which had nothing to do with the Middle East or the Palestinians. Stealing land from the Palestinians who had lived there for centuries to give to people who never lived there just because a government hundreds of miles away persecuted them was a fucking stupid idea. The formation of Isreal literally took a peaceful area of the world at the time and has plunged it into war ever since.

The saying is you become what you hate. The Jews in Isreal have become the Nazis. They are doing everything to the Palestinians that the Nazis did to them, except maybe gassing them or burning them alive. And they could be doing that for all we know since Isreal doesn't let UN inspectors in.

I just dont understand this sick relationship weve always had with them. Like I said, they do literally nothing positive for us. Our people starve in the streets while they accept hundreds of billions of dollars from us. Our people oppose the horrible things they do, but our government keeps sending them money. Why???? Seriously, I really think we deserve an answer to this.

They have started so many conflicts that have gotten our soldiers killed, when they dont even lift a finger. They pick the fight, we deal with it. Why? If nothing else, maybe this incident will make the citizens of the western world start demanding their governments to stop enabling their justified terrorism.

The USA-Israel relationship is the least complicated part of all of this. Israel provides America with a friend in the Middle East and acts as a destabilizing influence on the region so that no one country can become powerful enough to do something stupid like, say, blockade American ships or refuse to sell America oil.

It's so simple that it feels like there's more ti it, but I think that really is it.
