I got to the Mantis dudes while breezing through all areas with no deaths. I was able to get a decent amount of damage on the first dude but died. When I went back there was an NPC telling my to come back later when I upgrade my weapon.

For reference it took me about 30 tries to beat the Vampire chick in Bloodstained.

I suck at metroidvanias but I love playing them. I was just generally surprised to easily beat each boss I ran into first try (so far) I died to the damn boat squid on Bloodstained.

I wont spoil anything but if you keep going youre going to find that the mantis lords were a cakewalk.

For the base game, none of the bosses are soul crushingly difficult, but there are a few that may take a decent number of tries. Honestly getting back to some of them is the bigger pain than actually dying. Luckily there's a way to shorten it at least later in the game. If you want to 100% the game, the difficulty goes way, way, way up. For difficult platforming, there is the optional Path of Pain, and it is not a fucking exaggeration.

I mean, Hornet exists. So I'd assume he does.

Tbh I didn't really have a hard time with most of the bosses. I think the only one I had a hard time with was Soul Master and people online usually say that one isn't that bad.

which bosses have you done so far?

the hardest boss required to beat the game is in City of Tears, but there's... a pretty steep difficulty curve for the post-game content

I think the base game is beatable for most people, without too much frustration. One of the optional areas is pretty gnarly. The DLC ramps it up to very, very hard. Most players don't finish the final DLC. Play Hollow Knight long enough and I promise you'll reach a point where the game challenges you... and probably breaks you.

Mantis Lords are the first real wake-up call boss IMO. They're more typical of the boss difficulty in the game. There's a reason Quirrel spawns and suggests coming back later.

Don't get me wrong, it can definitely be done, but the game's guiding you towards a different area.

IMO by the time it finally gets difficult it has gotten boring.
