"Working from home can be too convenient. Things that are convenient arent necessarily good for us. Lifting weights is hard, but it makes us stronger. Similarly, it is more convenient not to have a commute or change out of our pajamas, but that doesnt mean its good for us. Having some commuting time, whether its walking, on public transit, or in a car, gives us an opportunity to let our minds wander and explore ideas. In these moments, you replay conversations from the day. Maybe you plan your discussion with your boss about a raise. You have time to process. Office life forces transitions and breaks throughout the day, as people shift between meeting rooms, desks, and meals and coffee. Of course, remote workers can plan breaks into their days, but most people arent very good at putting boundaries on their time."

I really don't understand this mentality behind making your employees uncomfortable and miserable.

When I lived in the US commuting was absolutely the worst part of my life. I hated everything about it.

Yep. When people would tell me Seattle had good public transit I just assumed they have Stockholm Syndrome from only living in the US.

Building character is psychologically one of the worst concepts imaginable lmfao. I mean building patience can be good to a degree, but straight up torture just breeds aggressive to passive aggressive behavior which extends to others around them.

Also it's a prime concept in toxic masculinity. Whoever wrote this shit was probably a bully or had a masculinity obsessed dad

From crumbling roads and bridges, to hilariously outdated and unkempt public transit.
Glad I don't have to commute. Even driving around locally can be a pain in the ass.

A lot of these articles are stuck in the 1950s boomer mentality. It is 2021. The world has changed so much.

How do these articles even get published when nothing they say is applicable to workers today?

Funny thing too is that 'commuting' is an entirely modern concept

In ye olden days people lived where they worked. Be it at their farm or the back of a store or in some sort of castle...

And with today's technology there is absolutely no reason to commute especially if you have some sort of white collar office job

Honestly, commuting needs to count as part of the work day and we should pay employees for their time spent traveling to and from work. After all it's not like most businesses won't end up covering all travel expenses for their corporate and above level employees. CEO's private jet? Whatever, no big deal. Literal cogs that make the gear turn every day? Nah.

Problem with this is that you now have a major advantage at getting hired if you live close to the job.

Work From Home is just easier and better

Yeah I'm not necessarily opposed to that idea, but it raises a lot of possible issues.

Anyways, article is beyond stupid but I do think working at the workplace is better than at home for many reasons.

Dunno why work culture insists on treating grown ass adults like children that need this arbitrary structure.

Oh wait, I know why. Middle management needs a reason to exist otherwise they're completely useless.

Theyre describing being less productive so that you can daydream and reflect on your day. Neither side should want that forced on the employee.

That's just it. Why would they pay for you to commute if they can just have to work from home? If for whatever reason they can't, then they need to pay for your it. It's not just time, it's mileage, car maintenance, breathing in all that commute car exhaust, sun exposure that can lead to cancer, etc.

It's a doubleplus good article
