I was trying to mount a TV and failed miserably. I have 0 DYI experience. I scanned for studs and for electricity. There was an electric signal maybe about half an inch to the left of where I drilled and I thought it was just enough room to drill.

Turns out I hit somethind that looks metalish in between the drywall and stud.

What did I hit? How screwed up am I? Is this something to worry about? All my lights still seem to work.

One thing I'd try is to take a stud finder, if you have it, and run it vertically and try to find out if there's a horizontal brace/stud there. Hopefully you just hit a metal stud bracket, but it's really hard to tell.

Normally you have the vertical studs, but between them you'll find random horizontal ones. I ran into this issue last year after delicately measuring and marking studs, only to be cockblocked by half an inch by one.

Tried the vertical scan. No vertical stud. This wall is facing the street and near a window. It does have an electrical outlet near the bottom of the wall and moreless vertically aligned with where the hole was. The outlet and hole are like 4ft apart.

Above the wall is pretty much nothing, just the roof of the house which makes it even more odd as idk why there would be a pipe or cable near.

What room is on the other side of that wall?

If it's a bathroom then it looks like you went through a nail-gaurd that plumbers and electricians use (to prevent nails and drywall screws from damaging their work) and knicked what appears to be an unused copper water line (based on its shiny copperish/bronzy hue).

Do you know where your main shut-off valve is?

No room. The wall faces the outside street. It might be that nail guard but idk what it might be guarding. If it was a nail guard am I screwed? I stopped drilling as soon as I realized

If it was a tie, should I be worried?

Nah.. those things can have a dozen screws or nails holding it into place.

The hole you made would just add to it.

I drilled into something that looked identical to that when I hung up some new blinds above my window. That was 6 months ago and I don't have any problems. Still don't know what it was tho lol

Any other pictures from other angles? Is it flat metal piece with a hole in it or is it some kind of circular tube you can stick your finger into but youd be in the chamber instead of a finger through a hole into empty wall >_>

if you tap it does the sound reverberate throughout the whole wall? If it sounds like an entire tube through the wall it might be a water or gas tube >_>

dont wanna mess with that

Here's a hole without that weird thing
