Ignoring the memes, was it any good?

its writing and acting takes a huge dive. gameplay isn't bad. id suggest making a monstrosity in the create a character if you're going to dive in.

It's one of the worst games I've ever played. Up there with Devil May Cry 2 and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.

I got bored as soon as it got gameplay heavy. Boring. Mass Effect gameplay was never the strong point. It was serviceable to get you to the next piece of story.

It was just okay and likely wouldn't have been bad if was just it's own thing entirely. But it came off the back of the other three games and the awful ending of three so all the flaws were amplified tenfold and the meh writing/characters fell ten times as flat when you had the stellar ones of the previous three to compare it to.

like, it just didnt play all that well. Lots of glitches, story was very bland. Non of the characters were likable.

you can just immediately tell it was made by an inexperienced group.

It's not horrendous if you ignore the glitches. There's a decent to good game in there and there is some enjoyment to be had, but still.

Playing after all the patches is a lot better, but the majority of the game still isn't all that interesting. Still some decent aspects and some of the character stuff is fun. Buy it cheap and see for yourself. It's usually like 5 bucks, so no huge loss.

It was a pretty bad Mass Effect game, I found that it didn't seem particularly interested in doing anything new and interesting with the setting or aliens, at all. It ignored previously established things but didn't do anything I found interesting with these changes, it more just felt like they had a story they wanted to tell and inserted established species, cultures and societies in there to make it more Mass Effect-y.

As not a Mass Effect game, it's a pretty mediocre open world game. Go do same-y side missions to fill up a progress bar and complete a planet.

It's worth a single playthrough.

if you played the game you learn that the crew was sent out prior to the big final reaper attack that they didnt know if they would survive or not, so they sent out arcs with all of the Milky Way galaxies species to find a new planet to colonize and repopulate humanity.

so they were sent millions of light years away while the final battle was going on and if I remember correctly they get a message after they awaken that they were successful fending off the reapers.

but by that point they are already awake and dont have the ability to make a trip back but understanding how space travel/time works is a whole other conversation.

Nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be tbh. It had the best gameplay of all the ME games, the story and characters are fine, albeit not great.

Biggest criticism is definitely how empty Andromeda feels. It should have been more about finding new stuff and species, but they leant heavily on the established stuff.

It was a quintessential 6/10 game. Way too padded for its own good, but it has its moments.

Would have been way more tolerable without the open world gimmick and just stuck with ME2/3's formula.

Pretty mediocre and kind of tedious. It isn't a great game but it also isn't the worst. I wasn't a fan of the story I thought it was kind of stupid. Here they are sending out an expedition into unknown space and as soon as they get there everyone starts to fight amongst themselves and gangs of bandits and pirates pop up. To me it seems like they gathered up a bunch of assholes and launched them into space just to get rid of them.

Along with the crap writing, it suffers the same problem as most open world games. It's repetative, boring, and empty.

Gameplay wise it was fine. Glitches have been patched out and it isn't a chore to play. But it's another attempt to copy open world gameplay in way too small a set of settings, making it a lot of bitchwork and traveling the same few maps.

Characters didn't wow me. They're fine, but I feel less engaged in their backsories while most real entertainment is in the casual travel conversation. I think they were written by people that thought the first game's elevators were the best part.

Story is where it really flubs. The mission had gone sideways so that it seems this is a game with hard survuval at its core and hard decisions about resoirce allocation. That lasts a few hours until it seems like everyone is fed, not resentful of choices made, and getting along well. My choices should have been agonizing. Instead I felt like middle management making choices because others didn't want to.

Yes. It's a pretty fun game and if you enjoy the mass effect series it's worth playing at least once.

Especially when they convert them into looking exactly like them. At least with the husks created by Reapers/Reaper tech they had interesting designs with each of them being a twisted, deformed version of their race.

The actual gameplay might be some of the best in the series however for a game thats about exploring a new galaxy it feels phoned in. Not much variety in new species and majority of exploration boils down to rather uninteresting fetch quests which makes the game feel like MMO (DA:I also suffered from this). I personally got bored of it both times I played it about halfway through the game and never finished.

It does maintain a rather lighthearted tone which is refreshing given how dark the trilogy is and I personally liked the new protagonist.

I've heard they've patched the unemotive faces and animations (though IDK to what extent), but there's no patching the terrible writing.

The gameplay is fine, but the story doesn't seem as interesting, partially because half the cast is really annoying. There are some fine missions in there, though, and even a weaker ME effort still has pretty good Bioware dialogue.

Awful. It felt like a cheap MMO or some kind of F2P game. I guess the gunplay was serviceable but the overall gameplay evoked that kind of feeling. I couldn't even get through more than a fourth of it.

It's average as it is, but awful if you expecting a return to form after Mass Effect 3 nosedived with the ending.

Wasn't it mostly BioWare's fault though? since they wasted a bunch of time trying to do a No Man's Sky procedurally-generated thing or whatever
