Raid mode: go here, shoot the enemies and survive. That's it

Mercenaries: Shoot enemies to drive up your score, a bit of strategy is required, time bonuses,score bonuses and a sense of accomplishment when you post to the leader board.

No. Being constrained by time is fucking stupid. Much of raid mode was skill and endurance based. It required good use of item management and planning to make it through, especially the bigger levels. You can take your time and plan a strat for the next room, instead of running in a big circle kiting enemies around a box for 10 minutes like in mercs.

On a related note, Ghost Ship is probably the best extra content level in any RE game.

Mercs takes skill and timing for counter attacks, plus item management because when you get near the end of any round items become scarce. You still have to somewhat plan out each round too. You can't just run around and shoot everything from the get go.

I haven't played much resident evil apart from revelations 2 (which I enjoyed) and a bit of 7 vr, is this a good one to jump into if you don't know the lore?

Re8 is a direct sequel to 7. Re7 doesn't have much to do with the rest of all the other Resident Evil lore, so if you played 7 and jump into 8 you'll be completely fine.

You technically don't even need to play 7 since they give a short recap of what happened in the beginning of 8.

So in short, go for it.

Tbh they're all good to jump into because the story is an afterthought and a mess

Alright so I'm playing Hardcore.

Fuck the intro. No, seriously. Fuck the Lycens "escape" dumb shit. It took me seven tries to memorize the route I need to do right, and to cheese the AI into groups enough for the barrels to make a difference. I learned that after the giant spawns I can run into a house and break the AI by running in a circle around a kitchen table until I got shot in the leg by an arrow through the house itself lol

Felt very much like the chase sequence from dark corners of the earth, but worse. I've got about two hours into the game post-intro and it's quite decent. But on Hardcore that first challenge is so busted it felt like a joke. They should have allowed the cutscene to progress you out of there at any point you went to 0HP, tbh.

You either need to last 3-4 minutes past his spawn to get hit by an arrow, or 2-3 minutes after he spawns any lycen kill will be a sync kill into a cutscene. That is a lot of time when RNG on the loot kills you and you get nothing but green herbs and zero gunpowder or ammo like I had on some of those lives until I got it.
