AlisLandale 05/06/21 6:41:45 PM #14:	The Pokmon series is best when its not trying to be a battle shonen, and focuses on the weird ass world filled with weird ass monsters causing weird ass problems that Ash and co get roped into dealing with. The actual battle shonen shit is just the excuse to have him explore. For that, I tend to prefer the earlier seasons, since the franchise was still new and it generally felt like they were less concerned with the rules. I came into the topic wanting to say SM, but it's tough. Because SM is definitely like the original series in a lot of ways. But Dawn was amazing and so was Paul. I havent watched a single episode in years, but I tried to get back into it in X/Y and its nothing but boring fillers interlaced with pointless tournaments full of boring battles that try to stick too close to the games. That said, the gym battles, which should be the most exciting, were the low point of the first season. Brock, Misty, Erica and Sabrina never got decent fights (though Misty wouldve lost hard if Pikachu was an option). At least Blaine and Lt.
