People don't care about any other type of unfairness when it comes to women's sports, this is the only thing they pay attention to. Because they know it's a soft spot and lets them express transphobia without giving away the game like if they wanted to deny a trans person education, employment, or housing.

The IOC has specific rules on trans women competing. I don't have the receipts, but I'm going to assume Ms. Hubbard passes those conditions if she has been accepted.

So here's what's going to happen:

  1. She wins the gold. People say "I told you so. This proves everything".
  2. She doesn't win the gold. People immediately forget about the loss or even forget she existed and as soon as another trans woman has the gall to be an Olympic athlete, we start this all over again.

how do you address the utter unfairness of a woman who transitioned at age 35 giving her 35 years of testosterone beefing up her body structure and muscles competing against cis women who have never had a drop enter their bodies?

that's the point EndOfDiscOne failed to address in any capacity. and it's a point i've never seen a satisfactory answer to.

i really try to be accepting of everyone but the idea of this trans woman competing against cis women just seems so unfair and i feel like its bullshit that i'm labeled a "transphobe" for asking this.

edit: not saying you were calling me a "transphobe" here, but i do feel like i'm guaranteed to be jumped on by at least a few people here for asking this question

I see this all the time. I'm a civil rights lawyer, I represent people in vulnerable groups, including trans people. Right now, there's a big push going on among transphobes to stop progress and decreasing stigmatization of trans people. It comes through attempt to segregate them (bathroom bills, healthcare and sports bans) and to legalize outright discrimination against them based on religion (trying to get religious exemptions from all civil rights laws).

These areas are chosen because they are soft spots where people will tolerate discrimination. We've reached the point where people can't openly advocate for violence or shoving people back in the closet, but you can still discriminate to protect the women and the children or God. That way people can discriminate without recognizing that they're trash because they can tell themselves it's actually about the children or fairness or religious liberty,

i apologize for the ignorance about that. but, really, how does that affect anything in the point i made there?

just replace "no" with "very small amounts" and the point is the same. trans women were exposed to significant levels of testosterone during puberty which has a significant affect on body development.

edit: for clarification, i honestly don't know how i feel about this. i understand both sides of the argument. i get how fucked up it is to tell a transperson they can't compete due to who they are. i also get how cis women feel like its unfair to compete against someone with what they perceive to be an innate physical advantage.

I understand what you are trying to say, but masculinization of the human body will make one top tier compared to females

My point is that you can correct for male/female performance statistically to show how youd expect a person to perform (hypothetically) after transitioning if all male performance was removed.

E.g. if someone was a top 30% athlete as a male, then if after transitioning no advantage exists then they would then be a top 30% female.

The issue becomes if that athlete jumps like 20% in tier after transitioning to top 10% tier, in their 40s, with a similar regimen....

i think the guidelines set forth by the IoC regarding testosterone levels being at or below a threshold for at least 12 months makes a lot of sense.

but that fails to address the issue about science identifying long lasting strenght and power found in individuals exposed to high levels of testosterone during puberty. i honestly dont have any idea how to address that "fairly" for everyone involved, but i'm all ears for suggestions.

edit: updated wording so the pedant police doesn't get me

What questions do you have? Those can be answered if they're asked respectfully and not as a pretext for trolling. But you have to understand why people who only pop in and loudly proclaim that they have "questions" about the issue of someone's rights are distrusted. Because it's a standard trolling tactic.

And yes, people will get mad at you when you "disagree" about whether they have rights and can equally participate in public life. How would you feel if I disagreed with you on whether all people named Smackems should be sent to Gitmo immediately? I have the right to have that opinion and yet Smackems seem to get bent out of shape when I simply express my opinion about their continued liberty.

Equal participation in sports doesn't implicate rights? Even if the legislature bans people from participating? Title IX and Jackie Robinson would beg to differ. I don't think even you believe what you're saying here.
