I was thinking of checking out the general, but I could always go back to progressive too but I'm open to other recommendations too

US insurance is way behind the times in the way of coverage. Just heard a story from my lawyer about how an American caused an accident with her client up here, and the US company was trying to pay out like the accident happened in the US, with two Americans, and they werent budging, so the lawyers were working for free basically and they were forced to just settle. Her client got super underpaid. Kind of dickish, actually.

In general, it shouldnt matter who you go with, all places offer the same coverage. Just call around and ask for pricing. In my current province, insurance isnt private, so we dont get a choice on basic coverage, only comprehensive.

I've been with progressive, Allstate, and state farm. State farm is the only one that has lowered my rates without explanation as opposed to raising them without explanation

Depends entirely on your hidden insurance score which is like a credit score, your age, sex, and driving record. You're better off just trying to get a bunch of quotes yourself.

Always call around. I would call at least four different providers and when you talk to each one tell them the quote you got from other companies if it is lower.

Well, ended up going back to progressive. I looked around and they were $40 cheaper a month than anyone else for the same coverage

If you live in California, the Automobile Club of Southern California is the best insurance company there is. Period.

Unfortunately other AAA affiliates aren't quite so good. When I filed for bankruptcy a while back the Auto Club Group doubled my rates. I dropped them like a hot potato and switched to State Farm. I was able to get coverage for myself and my spouse AND renters insurance for less than what ACG wanted just for my car. State Farm also has offices almost everywhere so you can do business with an actual person if you want.
