No violent crime should mean no hard time, that 5 year sentence should be overturned.

The woman was already on probation. When you commit a lesser crime without a serious record, you go on probation. If you commit another crime while on probation, you go to jail.

I strongly disagree with disenfranchsing criminals, but that doesn't mean laws like these haven't been established for many decades.

Cept that the polling people didnt even know why she couldnt vote and had her fill out a provisional ballot, so that if they found out the reason, it would not be counted. Whilst this asshole had a mother that was dead for over a dozen years and when they checked on it and noticed she was dead, he said no she is alive gets a slap on the wrist.

Probably need more details but let us just go with two instances hand picked that fit your narrative with no sourcing.

Well the "narrative" so far nationally has been that the few sources of voter fraud found have mostly been committed by Republicans...

Here's a link to the whole story comparing and contrasting the way the two were treated. What is even more offensive is that the white guy knew what he was doing - deliberately committing a crime - whereas the black woman was unaware and thought she was doing her public duty.

Okay? The issue here isn't about black people versus white people. The two relevant things are:

She was already on probation for another felony.

Texas voter laws are shitty.

The law does not find ignorance to be an excuse. As a felon on probation she has certain obligations, and she failed to meet those obligations, so she went to jail for violating parole. Never mind the two disparate sentences could simply be defined by the differences in state law. We don't just have "two sets of law" in this country, we have 50+. Simplifying these two issues into a matter of race is wholly ignorant of the Law in general and a disservice to the actual issue at hand--Undemocratic voting laws in Texas forbading criminals to vote, just like in most States.
