It's mainly for expats working there who have wanted to come back home since COVID flared up there but Australia has really cut back on return flights to the country because we keep having COVID outbreaks from hotel quarantine (everyone who enters from overseas has to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days). Australia has basically gone for elimination, which by and large has worked, with only around 2,000 locally transmitted cases of COVID since the outbreak (aside from one state, Victoria, which had around 20,000 last year as they are the most densely populated) Australia has 10 active cases in the community right now. --- ...for it is better to be alone than in bad company. <cite>TreyFlowers posted [p:953482234] in Australia ... Although apparently it's almost impossible in practice due to travel bans on India in countries they'd have to transit through. It definitely made a HUGE difference to the number of cases showing up in border quarantine, and I suspect it's a big factor in why the post-trans-Tasman-bubble breaches have all been on Australia's side even though typically New Zealand has a higher rate of border failures. ~~Of course, if they'd just open proper fucking quarantine facilities instead of using hotels in major cities...~~ --- [insert funny sig here] <cite>Trumble posted [p:953484695] in Australia ...
