We went back five more times (would have been six if not for the Apollo 13 malfunction).

We've been back several times. Then people started grumbling about what taxpayers were getting out of it and we'd already beaten the commies several times over, so as far as the politicians were concerned, mission accomplished and no more need to compensate for an unpopular war in Vietnam. In case you hadn't noticed, it's politicians who hold the purse strings, not scientists.

Also, "why haven't we been back?" is weird logic for an argument that we never went in the first place. So you're prepared to consider that multiple Moon landings were a hoax that fooled the entire world, including the Soviets who, in the middle of the Cold War and the imminent threat of nuclear destruction from the sky, would have been keeping a beady eye on every man-made object that America sent up into the stratosphere and beyond. But apparently not going back exposes the limitations of the hoax because for some reason, these evil masterminds wouldn't able to simulate more than six crewed landings.

So you are telling me for the first time in human history again, we have not found any cheaper and more efficient ways to go back. Just it was a cold war statement and done? We are talking about the same species that figured out ways to circumnavigate and colonize the planet over some spices right?

Okay, what incentives did the USSR have in calling out the USA?

So you are telling me for the first time in human history again, we have not found any cheaper and more efficient ways to go back.
So on the one hand, you don't believe the technology exists that can take men to the Moon and back. Yet on the other hand, you're convinced that technological advancements mean we must have found a cheaper and more efficient way to do it by now. And you hold both of these opinions inside your head simultaneously, and you're blind to the contradiction between them. This is why Moon landing conspiracy crackpots come across as wilfully obtuse morons.

So let me get this right. The fact that we haven't gone back to the Moon is irrefutable proof that we never went in the first place, but we could surely do it now more cheaply and easily, except that we haven't gone back, which proves that we can't. That about it?

As for what incentives the USSR would have had for exposing the Moon landings as a hoax and embarrassing Nixon... Y'see, there was this thing called the "Cold War". It's possible some under-educated children have never heard of it, or have heard of it only vaguely in passing. But it was a thing; it really existed, even it happened before you were born. And in wars, there are these things called "politics". Because of these "politics", you try to make your side in the war seem good and the other side seem bad. With me so far? Ready to go the extra mile?

OK. So in wars, if you can exploit an opportunity, utilize any scrap of information, that exposes the other side as liars and losers, then you don't keep it all to yourself. You don't order your own agencies to avoid embarrassing the enemy because you think their leader's a nice guy underneath. Nope, instead you mobilize a full-scale propaganda offensive to put his mendacity squarely in the glare of the global spotlight. Y'know, a bit like Uncle Sam did whenever he exposed clandestine Soviet ops at work in the Third World? I dunno, maybe you don't remember that. Or maybe you just can't figure out why Uncle Sam would have done such a thing.

Or, more seriously: are you fucking kidding me?

We used to have a kid a bit like that in school. He insisted that everything around him disappeared whenever he closed his eyes, because nothing was real except inside his own head. So the next time he closed his eyes to "prove" it to himself, someone gave him a reality check and punched him in the face.

No, I am stating that man has always found better ways to improve and make things more efficient and cheaper. For you to believe in the moon landings is to believe for the first time in human history that man kind has failed in technological progress. To me, I just don't believe it because it seems far from an anomaly but that's just me.

For the USSR, how would they expose the USA in this hoax. TBH, do you know anything about Mikhail Gorbachev's tenure? If you did know then you wouldn't have even brought up this stupid point lmao. Did you know the average Soviet citizen didn't know about Stalin's terror until the 80s? Trust me, the last thing the USSR wanted to do was try and call out BS on the USA when the whole country was hanging on a thread on BS of its own. I would love to know the countries that would've taken a country backed by hard power and propaganda alone seriously in smearing the USA, and for what benefits? Yep, this would've definitely saved the USSR from collapsing. Do you know how stupid this sounds?

OK troll, let's make this a simple Yes/No question. Do you believe that today's America has the technological means to make a successful manned Moon landing and return, or not?

If the answer's "No", then you accept that when the federal government isn't investing trillions of taxpayer dollars in a project driven by political objectives, it means we don't automatically find "cheap and easy ways" to achieve paradigm-shifting technological breakthroughs, despite your blind faith in the inevitability of scientific progress.

If the answer's "Yes", then I'd point out that we're not going to the Moon right now. But in your circular logic, if there's no manned lunar mission planned, it means the technology doesn't exist. Because there's no conceivable reason why we wouldn't be going if it existed, right? So your answer is really "Yes, but no, but yes, but..."

I know that facts seem to slip between your clumsy, fumbling fingers like water, but you do know that it was Leonid Brezhnev, and not Mikhail Gorbachev, who was power during every Moon landing? I'm now starting to wonder if you have the faintest fucking clue about any of this stuff. The USSR had over 15 years to "call out BS on the USA" for the "Moon landings hoax" before Gorbachev became General Secretary.

And to drive home the point yet again: the Apollo missions took place in the depths of the Cold War, when the USSR showed zero reluctance to pull punches in the propaganda war against America.

But inside your head, facts and chronology need to be twisted around back to front, inside out, and upside down for your utterly absurd explanation of Soviet silence to somehow "work". So you make these tortured twists of logic, saying it was Gorbachev who covered up the hoax (without any proof that Gorbachev even had any information about a hoax), without being able to offer a crumb of explanation as to why Brezhnev "covered up the hoax" in the years when the USSR was far from collapse. And you even try to somehow link it to the Soviet cover-up of Stalin's purges, implying that a regime that covered up its own crimes would naturally want to cover up its enemies' crimes as well. This makes no sense whatsoever.

And when you talk about a planet polarized between two superpowers who were deadlocked in ideological conflict, you bizarrely suggest that one of them - which operated a vast apparatus of state control over all media - somehow lacked the basic means to project its propaganda message to neutral countries, to the satellite countries under its control or influence, or even to its own people. How could the USSR have called BS on the USA? Jesus fucking Christ. The very same way that the USA condemned the USSR: via TV, radio, and print media.

Oh, hold on: of course. We didn't have the technology to beam sound or moving pictures into people's homes back in the 1960s and 70s. Yeah, that would have been a barrier.

I mean Jesus. This is the kind of gibberish that peddlers of Moon landing conspiracies need to descend to, in order to cling to their bullshit. These are the depths of idiocy they have to slosh about in.
