I know men spit far too much, but never seen them doing it after getting out of a vehicle is all. That's what baffles me.

That was meant more as a way to paint the scene, because I do see it pretty often, but by no means am I suggesting that it's the ONLY place it happens.

True, but a lot less than in the 80's & 90's since MLB banned tobacco on the bench and field.

are you dangerously close to being sincere with another man in a conversation? let one rip to remind everyone involved how manly you are.

entering a new territory where others may be unaware to your manliness? establish the baseline as soon as you step foot in said territory.

it may have started by habit when dipping/tobacco use in general was common, but persisted through generations.

That's Lenny Dykstra. POS steroid user who's been in and out of court & jail since retiring. Smoked in the dugout and chewed on the field. When he was a player in the outfield, the opposing team had the grounds crew hose off all the brown loogies he left in the outfield between innings.
