Had it twice. Terribly annoying. Have you tried a hot water bottle and ibuprofen?

I tried foam rolled, icy hot, ibuprofen and that barely took the edge off

tens unit made the pain subside enough for me to nap through it

I meant heating pad. Don't know why I said hot water bottle. If possible put one on the sciatic nerve (not to be condescending, but that's just about where your back meets your ass crack). Should work in about a day or two.

Don't sleep on the heating pad. And if it feels too hot, it is too hot. But sit on it when you can.

I had sciatica twice. Hope you feel better.

Back in 2011 my Mom had sciatic pain that knocked her on her back for several weeks with pain so intense she couldn't sleep properly.

She later ended up telling me that if it came back she probably would've killed herself. No exaggeration or humor to that either. >_>

I live in fear of getting one

Women, especially when they're pregnant get it more often than men according to my doctor at the time. I too hope you never get it. The heating pad on the sciatic nerve and ibuprofen cleared it up in about 36-48 hours though

I dealt with this 2 years ago, and it took a full year to get back to normal. Every once and again I feel tinges of pain, but thankfully I don't suffer with it every day.

I tried EVERYTHING. Foam rollers, physio, massage, chiropractic, heat pads, cold packs, Dr. Ho machines, Naproxen, etc, etc, etc.

But the Chrio was literally what caused it in the first place and it was about a year later when people kept telling me to find a better Chiro in town. So reluctantly I went and explained everything to her and she flat out told me this isn't going to go away with a few cracks. She didn't do shit for me but gave me such stretches and holds to build my muscle support back, and then everything else started healing around it and the nerve pain started to slowly but surely go away.

So that's what I would recommend personally. The physio SHOULD have done that for me but she was useless. Just got to find the right stretches for you and do them daily. Foam roller helps a lot too.

Massages/heating pads might help but it's only going to get worse. You might need an epidural or possibly surgery if it's warranted

I wonder why some people just randomly get it, and some dont.

I notice for me, i can cause it after a long gaming session.

I try to adjust how Im sitting every so often, but I think this is the culprit

I got a massage in late Jan this year. First time and having benefits from work covered the entire amount. I have another appointment in June again. Don't really need it but I'll go cause it was relaxing. Felt nice, but I got it more so for my left shoulder blade that was fucked. I ended up doing a random yoga pose which fixed the issue. Could have been a knotted nerve or something. Also I think the sciatic pain I dealt with also got worse from doing situps which I stopped doing. Since March I feel better now. The back and abdominal pain was annoying. Literally waking up everyday feeling like that was not pleasant.

Sometime next month I'll try doing crunches instead of situps and see how that feels otherwise I won't bother with an ab light exercises. Not worth it for the pain and I'm not taking pain killers regularly like the doctor recommended.

yeah, been having this pain ongoing on my left side for the past year or so. sometimes i just cannot walk or sit or lay down comfortable and i wanna just have the pain end. typically going to hte chiro helped, but i think that's just cause it takes time for the pain to wear off. still trying to figure out how to make it better. it's eays to forget to stretch when you're not in pain. but i hear working out your core helps strengthen your back to reduce pain

I had a bad experience with Chiro before, hesitant to go back.

im sure Id have a different experience with a different chiro, but it still wont be covered in my insurance.

they wanted to see me 3x per week, for 4-6 weeks, at $45 per visit.
nooooope cant do that lol

When I got it, the doc said it's pressure from your body on the sciatic nerve. The nerve is in the vestigial tail that humans have.

Women - especially those pregnant - generally get it because carrying around a baby puts pressure on the nerve. For men it's generally sitting too long putting pressure on the nerve. Women can get it that way too.

YMMV, but the two times I had it, two different docs said heating pad and ibuprofen. Gone in 48 hours tops. Contact a doctor (or nurse line if your health plan has one) if things continue or worsen.

Ah man, I have 2 slipped discs in my back, L4 & L5. On a good day the pain stays between my lower back and my hip. On a bad day it runs down my legs to my knees. I have one disc going left and one going right, so I get pain on both sides.

Good times.

I'm on daily low dose pain meds, I take THC/CBD at night, and I get injections in my back every 6 weeks or so. The shots help for about 4 weeks on average. The initial injury happened about 9 years ago and it's just getting worse and worse with each passing year. I'm probably going to be looking at surgery within the next 2 years or so.

Yay me!

There is a reason insurance companies severely limit coverage of chiropractic procedures if they cover them at all.

TC, see a doctor if conditions worsen and/or if the heating pad ibuprofen regimen doesn't work

Stretching one leg against the wall really helps. And like someone else says, change up your shoes. I used to wear dress shoes often because of work, and when I stopped, my mobility went totally back to normal.
Being hit with sciatica is definitely a humbling experience, it taught me to be grateful that Im able to use my legs at all. Nothing was worse than waking up and realizing you cant walk/get out of bed properly, very discouraging.

Thats the super annoying part about it. Nothing seems to relieve it once its started.

like on saturday afternoon, I felt it coming on pretty strong. Decided to get up and mow the lawn, figured movement would help. (Rather than keep sitting on it)

nope it just hurt worse, had to limp my way through, and couldnt finish the back

I have an electrinic back massager and they are pretty good for loosening you up but they never hot the hard knot tissues and muscles unless you have someone do it for you who can put some real weight on to it.
