My doctor told me to watch my sugar so I've been careful about everything I buy and it's ridiculous

I need to stay up so I decided I'd buy a coffee and a snack at the gas station.

Not a single coffee of any brand was less than like 25g of sugars. Even the little espresso shots and cold brews (canned, because regular is sugar-free) were like 30g-42g of sugar

I went to buy a small pound cake - 49g of sugar.

Insanity

I'm going vegan

yeah it is crazy. Remove/cut back as much of the added sugar from processed stuff as possible. I personally drink dark and I am good with that. you can make coffee at home and put creamer or milk if you don't like it dark.

Soda, sweets, even cereal with a lot of sugar are things that can be cut back easily

You missed the part where I was shocked at HOW MUCH sugar there is. Obviously I knew there was sugar. If I didn't think there was sugar, I wouldn't bother to check how much, would I?

i dunno if tc is memeing or not

but be wary of non-fat food too. a lot of non-fat foods are loaded with sugar because when you take out the fat of a food, you take out the flavor, and so they dump sugar in them to make them taste good.

i always go buy the overall calories of a food when determining if its "healthy". for example, a lot of "vegan" "gluten-free" etc food has tons of added oil and sugar to make them taste good and to make them not fall apart, so they end up having tons more calories than their normal version.

its all scam guys. just eat vegetables.

Also avoid restaurants often. Mostly their food tastes better due to too much sugar & salt.

You'll notice your homemade meals at times aren't as tasty if you reduce sugar/salt.

I changed my diet up a few months ago to lower my processed food intake and make more food from scratch. I quickly realized how addicted to sugar I was. The cravings were real bad at first, and I even succumbed a few times and went out and got a treat.

After a while, though, I became satiated with my low sugar/no sugar meals and even realized I was fuller quicker with smaller food portions.

The thing that really got me though was how addictive restaurant food can be. The additives in restaurant food makes you want to eat more. Like I can eat a small portion of my own food at home and be full and content. When I get some fast food in the weekend as a treat, my hunger cravings suddenly start up again and that one burger and fries aren't enough, despite having almost double the calories of the homemade meals I eat. It's like my taste buds love the flavor so much that my body wants more of it even though "technically" I should be full by now.

It really is scary how most of the food available out there is made to train us to consume more.

Yeah, people talk about how difficult cutting out soda is, but that was easy. I stopped drinking it about 12 years ago, but I've struggled with restaurant food the entire time.

Appreciate the insight, everybody. But a lot of people made a lot of assumptions about what I eat or don't eat based off a comment about a single cheat snack I didn't even follow up with.

But to cover my bases.
  1. I am cooking my own meals
  2. I am avoiding sugar and sweeteners
  3. I am drinking water, exclusively
  4. I am avoiding anything high in saturated fats or sugar in the event that I do go out to eat
  5. I was joking about going vegan, goddamn

Thanks nonetheless.

I have a coffee maker, but it's a regular one so in order to make it as strong as I need it to be I have to make it extra dark, which tastes bad because it's already a bad brand.

Maybe I can find some low-sugar cream.

cut back on added sugars and carbs in general (increase in protein), but also reduce portion sizes as well.

a lot of Carbs in general, especially refined will spike your sugar. don't eat a big ass meal full of refined carbs. Sleeping it off after a big meal especially is the worst you can do. Go for a walk
