For the first time in its 100 year history, these women joined their male colleagues in a co-ed company at a Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego where it involves target practice, hand to hand combat, a gruesome assault course including mud baths and high climbs and an exhausing 9.7 mile hike carrying 60lbs on their back The recruits who completed this 3 day event will be presented with an eagle, globe and anchor pins The competition consists of instructors giving recruits random tasks to perform on the parade deck and will be evaluated by a drill master Capt. Martin Harris said the female platoon had the highest physical and combat fitness test scores throughout the 13 week curriculum and that they won all physical events Their rifle range were also higher than the average female platoon at the training base in South Carolina In 2019, Congress ordered the San Diego boot camp to integrate women into its training battalians by 2028 and the Parris Island depot in South Carolina by 2025 Sgt. Ayesha Zantt, a marine drill sgt said it's history in the making and it's important and it's important for women to take part in these exercises.
