Beat it years ago and enjoyed it for the most part. Replaying so far has been fun. It's cool being a detective. Yeah, the facial technology might not hold up now, but it was still a cool idea even if it can be so obvious if someone is lying at times. Cole's insane outburst can still be funny. Not sure when they changed it, but on the PS4 "Truth" and "Doubt" is changed to "Good cop" and "Bad cop" respectfully, which makes more sense and makes it a little less confusing. I've been doing pretty good on the guesses.

Yeah, it's flawed and it may not be for everyone, but I'm still having fun with it and it doesn't seem all bad. It's just cool immersing yourself in the world and atmosphere of the game. They did an amazing job at capturing post war LA. When these open world games are done right, it can be fun just traveling around the map. Just sucks that there isn't much to do. I wasn't expecting GTA LA, but there could have been something. They could have made Phelps a little more likable too. I know he's a veteren who did some bad things in the war, but he was a little too much of a stuck up stick in the mud.

I thought the game was way ahead of it's time and very fun to play. My only gripes about the game are 1. The driving is horrid, 2. Sometimes the facial expressions don't match the motive.

1. The driving is horrid,

That is true. I mostly get my partner to drive everywhere, but there are the chases.

The atmosphere is amazing, but the focus on action and shooting makes it nigh unplayable for me. It's so bad and clearly chasing trends rather than going with the artistic integrity of what they wanted the game to be. I'm honestly not sure I'll ever play it again even though I really did like the detective sections, basic as they are, and the exploration of the city through the story.

Worst thing about it for me was the game literally telling you when you fucked up during an interview so Id just want to reload and try it again until I got it perfect

I enjoyed it, I'd like to see a new noire game but with improved mechanics and more to do after the game is over.

Also, I've never put a vr headset on in my life, but with my understanding of it, maybe it would improve interrogations. More life-like social cues if someone is trying to hide something.

Copied from that topic the other day:

It had the novelty going for it with the facial animation stuff, but it had issues. I don't know if they specifically told the mocap actors to be as over-the-top as possible with their facial reactions because they didn't trust their audience to be able to understand subtlety, or because the actors weren't trained and really just didn't know how to act with any subtlety, but whatever the case was, it just kinda ended up looking strange.

And then the game itself just kind of fell apart after a while. The Homicide desk was pretty much the exact same case like five times in a row, and it just came completely unglued after that. Phelps cheats on his wife for no goddamn reason whatsoever and gets demoted, you take control of a different character and have a big action shootout finale for no goddamn reason whatsoever, and then Phelps dies in a sewer flood for no goddamn reason whatsoever.

Also, the open world was pointless. It looked good and you can appreciate the effort they put into recreating the LA of the '50s, but, like, what purpose did any of it serve except as background decoration?

would have thought it was a nightmare.

fail an interrogation and you have to go through the whole thing again until the moment you failed without being able to skip any of the prior convos..

I've been lucky and been able to remember some stuff from my first playthrough so I haven't had to do that much. I did have to suffer through one cutscene and replaying a part several times in one case where a suspect is chased and then holds someone hostage with a gun and I was trying different things to see if I could just not kill him. There is no excuse for unskippable cutscenes.
