To be clear, my issue is with the hegemonic power of Christianity as a principality, I have no issue with Christians as individuals unless they are actively hateful.

The story of Jesus Christ is a very beautiful story and if he did exist then he would have been an incredible person, but unfortunately it is more likely that he did not exist. You can still believe in God and a Creator but Jesus is just a character.

Other way around dawg. There's very good archeological evidence that a prophet named Yeshua did live and operate during biblical times. A god/creator is the thing that definitely never existed.

How you figure? All Jesus did was point to God, be it in the Quran, or the Bible.

I did the opposite. Raised in a Christian household and turned my back on that as soon as I left the house at 19; 33 now and I don't regret it one bit.

Was living like an atheist (basically living by my own rules) till around age 23 when I asked the Lord (was running the 2 mile PT test for the Army, probably the hardest thing I'd had to do up to that time, as my stamina was trash) to help me pass my PT test, while running. I passed, fell out on the ground and gasped out gratitude. Slowly started my journey with the lord from there..and he's been a cheat code in my life ever since(I'm sure he had helped me before hand, I just was blind to acknowledge)

kind of opposite for me. I was never christian but I went to a catholic school from kindergarten to high school. In 1st or 2nd grade or whatever, whenever our first religion class was, I realized I was an atheist cause of genesis. I'm 31 now and can't imagine being religious

If believing in a god gave me a boost to my abilities, like getting a plus to stats in Dungeons & Dragons, then I probably would pray all the time. That would be pretty cool, like making an impossible jump from rooftop to rooftop because you prayed earlier for better Dexterity.

I don't really get atheists who "turn to religion" at all. It's incredibly baffling how you go from one to the other. Accepting others religions or seeking out something more spiritual is fine, but going to the Abrahamic religions? Genuinely confuses me.

Often it feels people who are seeking a community or purpose seem susceptible to it (and wanting that isn't wrong at all), but to me it seems that can be found/had without such a change in one's perception of reality.

Ultimately, they are free to do as they want and as long as they don't partake in the more hateful parts, anti science of the religions it really doesn't matter. If it makes them happier, then good for them in the end.

Generally it's because those people aren't atheist for any defining reason. They either hung out with other people who were or they were just trying to be edgy in their youth.

I mean, I'm not atheist for any "defining reason" either. I simply wasn't raised in a religious family and the reasons of "God" just seem incredibly strange to go to if not raised in that environment given you've only ever seen their reasoning from outside and much easier to see the illogical inconsistencies with the world around us that way.

That's a defining reason. It's the same one a lot of religious people have for being religious.

you guys believe in magic because it was written on old books and you picked one old story over another one strictly because of where you are or were in life. The fables in the Bible are no different than the fables in a fairy tale

Are you aware of the copy cat theory? Christianity's resemblance to Ancient Egyptian religion?

It has more in common with the Sumerian religion, but the Egyptian religion takes a lot from them too sooooo...
