I pay around $200 a month for healthcare and my deductible is pretty low. 20% coinsurance means I will never be fully free from payments.

Yet I looked at plans if I was getting them as an individual, you know, like if I wanted to try going into business myself or take a break.

Over $200 a month is the lowest plan for an HMO with a deductible of $9000 and no actual coverage until you paid that.

To have a plan worse than what I get through work, but the closest that you can get to what I got, you would be paying $700

$700 a month!

And you still would have to pay expensive coinsurances and such.

Madness!

When I first started this job I was contract to hire back in 2009 and so I got an individual plan.

It was like $150 and had great coverage and was even a PPO.

Plans like that no longer exist it seems?

Even better, if you can't afford health insurance, you have to pay penalty fees on your tax return.

This is why I say it'd bullshit when people say small businesses overcharge

Like restaurants, hair stylists, etc. They don't get paid vacation days or covered health care. Yeah they make more than me per hour, but that's because of insane overhead and hours. If you factor that in, they make significantly less

I mean, that is a whole other discussion but the people saying that also have to pay for healthcare so they want the cheapest price.

it isn't. also you'd be paying co-pays and the deductible even at that $700 per month. and that's for an individual. and who knows if you'd qualify for that on your own.

when I was working for corporate but getting the staffing firm insurance, it was $300 per month premiums with minimal coverage and a $1500 deductible, $3000 out-of-pocket max

Specifically one that doesn't speak up/out, attempt to organize, or protest for better working conditions because that puts you and even your child's access to healthcare at risk. A lot of other countries don't have such problems and labor negotiations are much stronger because of it.

A change in this power dynamic scares the donor class so much that Pelosi opted for a more expensive and inefficient cobra healthcare because they didn't want people to get the idea that the govt could actually provide care to many more people.

It's why Obama tossed aside the public option. And it's why Biden has amnesia about ever mentioning a public option in spite of his argument being that the public option was something he could easily do right away unlike med4all. The reality is he is strongly opposed to both.

Yeah, when Obamacare first came out, I was $700/mo for silver (cheapest) making $27,000. Nonsmoker and not obese or preexisting conditions

Then they had the audacity to threaten to fine me if I was too poor.

Recently I had a lapse in jobs and my family cobra rate was around $1500 a month

This just doesn't make sense. Silver is not the cheapest, bronze is the cheapest. The cheapest bronze plan making similar to you was $17/mo

My wife's current silver plan is $330

The bronze, silver, gold aren't prices but coverage. The market place had silvers as the cheapest option, besides major medical or whatever. Its been a few years

Takes three months to be allowed full coverage for new immigrants. You also must become a citizen or permanent resident.
